Description
Breakaway Cascade Swivels
Breakaway Cascade Swivels are an original Breakaway design and a popular way of making cascade rigs, the multi-hook clipped-down rigs used by many beach anglers. Breakaway components have been used by shore anglers for many years, and cascade swivels are a key part of a reliable, streamlined multi-hook rig.
A cascade rig clips each hook down in turn, so that when the main release lets go on impact with the water, the hooks release one after another. This gives you the casting distance and bait protection of a clipped-down rig with more than one hook in the water.
How they are used
Each Cascade Swivel is fixed on the rig body, locked in place with a teardrop bead and a crimp. It acts as both a snood attachment and part of the release chain. Used with a Breakaway Impact Shield as the main release, the system lets the baits release in sequence when the rig hits the sea.
Rig-building tips
When building the rig, nip the swivel slightly so it cannot slip over very small beads or crimps. If you use very heavy hook lengths, sliding stop knots or silicone-lined crimps help, and a short length of silicone tubing under the cascade can make up for the lack of stretch in stiff snood material. Test the rig at home by clipping it down and checking that each stage releases cleanly.
Key features
- Original Breakaway design for cascade rigs
- Lock in place with a teardrop bead and crimp
- Strong and simple to use
- Work with Breakaway Impact Shields as the main release
- Help streamline baits for extra distance
- Suit beach and pier multi-hook rigs
Compatibility
Designed for use with Breakaway Impact Shields, Relay Clips, teardrop beads, crimps and stop knots on beach and pier rig bodies.
Care and maintenance
Rinse finished rigs in fresh water after each sea session and let them dry fully before storing, to prevent corrosion of swivels and crimps. Check that crimps have not slipped and that swivels turn freely before reusing a rig.
Who is it for?
Beach and pier anglers who build their own multi-hook rigs and want a proven, reliable way to clip down more than one bait.
