Description
Mackerel Feathers – 3 Hooks, Size 1/0, Coloured
This ready-tied mackerel feather rig carries three coloured feathers on size 1/0 hooks. A three-hook rig is short and simple, making it easy to cast, less likely to tangle and much easier to handle than longer rigs. That makes it an excellent choice for beginners, younger anglers and anyone fishing from a crowded pier or harbour wall.
Fewer hooks also means less chance of snagging on rough ground and fewer fish to deal with at once, so you can enjoy each catch without a tangle of lines and flapping mackerel. The bright feathers will catch mackerel along with garfish, scad and small pollack.
How to fish them
Tie the top swivel to your mainline and clip a lead to the bottom swivel. Cast out, let the rig sink to the depth you want, then retrieve with a lift-and-drop action. Lift the rod smoothly to make the feathers dart upwards, then lower it while winding in the slack so they flutter back down. Count the rig down to different depths on each cast to find the fish.
Why choose a shorter rig?
A shorter rig is easier to cast accurately and further on lighter tackle, making it a good match for spinning rods as well as beach casters. It also suits fishing from rocks and harbour walls where a long rig would be awkward to land fish on.
