Description
Polymer Piston with 14.5 Steel Teeth
This is a polymer AEG piston fitted with a steel tooth rack, offering a useful upgrade over standard all-plastic pistons. The lightweight polymer body helps keep cycling fast and responsive, while the steel teeth stand up to the forces of the sector gear far better than moulded plastic teeth.
The piston is one of the hardest-working parts in an AEG gearbox. Every shot, the sector gear catches its teeth and draws it back against the main spring, so worn or stripped teeth are one of the most common causes of AEG failure. Fitting a piston with steel teeth is one of the simplest ways to make a gearbox more durable, especially with a stronger spring or a higher rate of fire.
Build and materials
The body is a reinforced polymer, which keeps the piston light so the gearbox can cycle quickly without putting extra stress on the motor and gears. The tooth rack is steel, giving long life even under heavy use. Because the polymer body is self-lubricating, it should run dry inside the cylinder; only the steel teeth need a light coat of grease where they meet the sector gear.
When to fit one
Fit this piston if your current piston has worn or broken teeth, as part of a gearbox service, or when you are upgrading to a stronger spring, higher-torque motor or higher-voltage battery that will increase the load on the piston.
Key features
- Lightweight reinforced polymer body
- Steel tooth rack (14.5 teeth)
- Steel teeth resist wear and stripping
- Replacement or upgrade part for AEG gearboxes
- Suits builds with stronger springs or higher rates of fire
Compatibility
Check the tooth configuration and dimensions against your gearbox and piston head before ordering. Some gearboxes and gear sets, for example short-stroked builds, need a specific tooth arrangement, and a few replicas use non-standard pistons. If in doubt, ask us or your airsoft technician.
Care and maintenance
Avoid putting oil or heavy grease on the polymer body, as some lubricants can weaken plastics and it is designed to run dry. Apply a light coat of grease to the steel teeth only. When servicing, check the first and last teeth for wear, and check the piston head and O-ring for a good seal with the cylinder.
Who is it for?
Airsoft techs and experienced players who want a durable, lightweight piston for servicing or upgrading an AEG gearbox.
Please note: Fitting requires gearbox disassembly and should be carried out by someone with AEG technical experience.
