Weighted Crystal Waggler Float

Description

Weighted Crystal Waggler Float

The Weighted Crystal Waggler is a clear-bodied waggler float with built-in loading. The weight in the base means you need less shot on the line, which helps with casting accuracy and lets the bait fall more naturally through the water.

Clear crystal floats are less visible to fish than painted bodies, making them a good choice for wary fish in clear, shallow water on stillwaters and slow-moving rivers. These floats are offered in an assortment of sizes and sold individually.

Choosing a size

Pick the smallest float that lets you cast comfortably to where you want to fish. In calm conditions and at short range, a smaller float gives a more delicate presentation; when there is a breeze or you need distance, step up a size. Carrying an assortment lets you match the float to the swim and the weather on the day.

Getting the shotting right

Because the float is already loaded, start with just a couple of small shot down the line, check how the float sits in the margin, then add tiny shot until only the tip shows. Spreading the remaining shot gives a slow, natural fall of the bait, which is often what tempts wary fish in clear water.

Using it on the bank

Attach the float bottom-end only, locked in place with a small shot either side of the eye or with a float adaptor. Because much of the weight is built in, you only need a few small shot down the line to cock the float and set the depth. Shot it down so just the tip shows. After casting, sink the line between rod tip and float to stop wind and surface drift pulling the float off line.

Loaded wagglers cast further and more accurately than unloaded floats of the same size, as the weight in the base helps them fly straight. That makes them well suited to fishing at range or to a feature such as an island or far margin.
