Description
Airtech Studios IBS Inner Barrel Stabilizer for G&G SMC-9
This Airtech Studios IBS is an inner barrel stabiliser made for the G&G SMC-9, the compact SMG-style carbine. It holds the front of the inner barrel firmly inside the outer barrel, reducing the small movements that cause one shot to land differently from the next.
Airtech Studios is known for practical, well-thought-out upgrade parts and accessories for popular airsoft replicas. The IBS is one of its best-known products: a small part, made for a specific model, that addresses a common cause of inconsistent shots.
Why inner barrel movement matters
In most AEGs the inner barrel is held at the back by the hop-up unit but is only loosely supported at the front, inside the outer barrel. That leaves room for the tip of the inner barrel to move slightly, and any movement at the muzzle or hop-up end can send the BB off on a slightly different line each time. The result is a wider group and shots that wander for no obvious reason.
How the IBS works
Airtech Studios designed the IBS to lock down the inner barrel and stop it moving at the muzzle end. It fits at the front of the outer barrel and holds the inner barrel centrally, so it stays in the same position from shot to shot. Because it is shaped for one particular model, it fits that replica’s barrel assembly properly rather than relying on tape or shims.
Fitting
Fitting involves removing the front of the SMC-9 to reach the muzzle end of the inner barrel, so you will need to be comfortable with basic disassembly of your replica. Follow the instructions supplied with the IBS and take photos as you strip the gun down so you can reassemble it correctly. If you are unsure, ask a technician to fit it for you.
Key features
- Inner barrel stabiliser made for the G&G SMC-9
- Locks the inner barrel in place inside the outer barrel
- Limits movement at the muzzle end
- Helps improve shot-to-shot consistency
- Compact, lightweight part
Compatibility
This IBS is made for the G&G SMC-9 only. Airtech Studios produces different IBS units for different replicas and barrel lengths, so check your exact model and version before ordering. If your replica has been fitted with an aftermarket outer barrel or a different length inner barrel, the fit may differ.
Care and maintenance
Whenever you strip the front end of your replica, check that the IBS is still seated correctly and that its O-rings are in good condition. Worn, flattened or missing O-rings reduce the grip on the inner barrel, so replace them when needed; Airtech Studios sells spare silicone O-rings for its hop-up and inner barrel stabiliser assemblies. Clean the inner barrel regularly with a cleaning rod and a lightly dampened patch, and avoid heavy oils or grease around the stabiliser, which can attract dirt.
Who is it for?
The SMC-9 IBS suits SMC-9 owners who want tighter, more consistent groups, especially those who have already upgraded the hop-up or inner barrel and want to get the best from them.
