The Ares M45X-S is a compact sub machine gun style AEG built on Ares’s M45 platform. It combines the familiar controls of an M4 carbine with a 9mm SMG style magazine, giving a short, quick-handling replica that is right at home in buildings, corridors and tight woodland. This retractable stock with arm stabilising brace version (AR-086E) is finished in tan.
What sets the M45X-S apart is the electronics. Its reinforced gearbox is built around Ares’s integrated EFCS (electronic fire control system) module with a built-in MOSFET, so the trigger is crisp, the contacts are protected and the rifle is ready for LiPo batteries from day one. Build and configuration
The M45X-S has a metal receiver and handguard, held together with steel pins and screws, with a polymer pistol grip. Ares designed the platform for tool-less assembly, so the front set can be changed and the rifle stripped down without a toolbox, which makes routine cleaning and reconfiguring between sites far easier than on many AEGs.
This version is fitted with a retractable stock that incorporates an arm stabilising brace. The stock collapses to keep the gun short for storage and transport and extends to give a steady hold when you shoulder it, while the brace profile gives it a modern PDW look that pairs well with tan and coyote kit.
Flip-up iron sights give you a sight picture straight away and fold down out of the way when you fit a red dot or holographic sight to the top rail.
Performance and electronics
Inside is a reinforced gearbox designed specifically for the M45 series, driven by an Ares slim motor. The EFCS module replaces the traditional mechanical trigger contacts with electronic control and a built-in MOSFET, giving a sharp, consistent trigger response and protecting the internals from wear.
Out of the box the M45X-S fires on semi and full auto. With Ares’s optional EFCS programmer, sold separately, you can set up programmable fire modes including a three-round burst. The controls follow the AR layout, and the safety selector is ambidextrous, so left- and right-handed players are equally at home.
Getting started
Before your first game, charge your battery fully on a suitable charger, fit it and check the rifle fires on safe, semi and auto as expected. Set the hop-up from zero, adding a little at a time until the BB holds a straight, flat line, and then check where it lands at the distances you usually shoot.
Your site will chronograph the rifle before play. Spend a few minutes learning how to change the battery and clear a jam so you are not doing it for the first time mid-game.

Compatibility
The M45X-S takes dedicated Ares M45 series magazines, available in mid and low-capacity styles, so make sure any spares are made for this platform rather than standard M4 or other SMG magazines. The EFCS module is happy with LiPo batteries; choose a compact pack that fits the battery space in your configuration and check the connector before ordering.
Rail sections accept standard 20mm accessories. Front sets, gearbox parts and many internals are specific to the Ares M45 series, so check that any upgrade or spare is listed for the M45 before buying. The EFCS programmer is a separate purchase.
Care and maintenance
Remove the battery whenever you are not using the rifle, and never leave a LiPo charging unattended. Run a cleaning rod with a clean patch through the inner barrel regularly to keep accuracy consistent, and only use clean, seamless BBs of a decent brand.
After muddy or wet games, wipe the outside down and let the rifle dry naturally before casing it. Check that rails, accessories and the stock are tight, and have any gearbox work carried out by an experienced technician.
