Description
Ares SOC SLR Sniper Rifle (MSR-SOC)
The Ares SOC SLR (MSR-SOC) is a bullpup sniper-style rifle based on the Otto Repa OMR SOC SLR design. Unlike most airsoft sniper rifles it is electric, not spring powered: it is a semi-auto-only AEG with Ares’s EFCS programmable MOSFET, which gives the quick follow-up shots of an AEG with the long barrel and steady hold of a sniper rifle.
Ares is known for its electronic gearbox technology, and the SOC SLR is one of its most distinctive designs. With a 24in outer barrel inside a compact bullpup layout, it delivers rifle-length range in a package that is easier to move with than a conventional sniper rifle.
Build and materials
The SOC SLR is full metal on the outside: the receiver, barrel and rail are alloy, the handguard is CNC-machined 6063 aluminium, and the trim parts are steel, with a polymer pistol grip. It measures about 99cm and weighs about 6.1kg, which helps it sit very steadily in the aim. A 20mm Picatinny-railed receiver takes your scope, and the adjustable cheek riser and butt plate let you set a consistent head position.
An integral monopod and a two-piece bipod help you settle into a stable firing position, and a flash hider and muzzle brake complete the look. A switch-operated red aiming laser is built in and runs on two AAA batteries.
Performance and internals
Inside is a front-wired gearbox with 18:1 steel gears, 8mm ball bearing bushings and a micro-switch trigger, compatible with Version 2 piston, cylinder, piston head, tappet plate and 21.2mm nozzle parts. A quick-change spring lets you adjust power to suit different sites. The 670mm 6.08mm inner barrel and rotary hop-up, reached by locking the mock bolt back, are set up for heavier BBs; 0.28g is a good starting point.
It fires on semi only, as you would expect from a marksman rifle.
Handling
The bullpup layout puts the weight back towards your shoulder, so the long barrel is easier to hold on target. It is set up for right-handed shooters, with ambidextrous safety, bolt release and magazine release. The 40-round proprietary magazine rocks into place.

Compatibility
Uses proprietary SOC SLR magazines; order spares listed for the Ares SOC SLR. A 7.4V LiPo stick battery with a Mini Tamiya connector is recommended; check the size before ordering. The laser needs two AAA batteries. Internals accept many Version 2 parts, and the receiver rail takes standard 20mm scope mounts. Use 0.28g or heavier seamless BBs for best results.
Care and maintenance
Take the battery out of the gun whenever you are not using it, and store LiPo batteries at storage charge in a fire-resistant bag. Never leave a battery charging unattended.
Use good quality, seamless 6mm BBs; cheap or damaged BBs are the most common cause of jams and can damage the hop-up rubber. Run a cleaning rod with a dry patch through the inner barrel every few games, and if a BB jams, clear it with the rod from the muzzle end with the battery removed.
After each game wipe the outside down to remove dirt and moisture, and let the gun dry at room temperature if it has been out in the rain. Turn the hop-up back off when storing it for long periods, and leave the gun on safe and on semi rather than full auto, so the spring is not left compressed.
Who is it for?
The SOC SLR is for players who want a sniper or marksman rifle with the convenience of an AEG, and who like a distinctive, full metal bullpup design that stands out on the field.
Please note: Battery, charger and scope are not included. Always wear suitable eye and face protection, and check your site’s power limits and minimum engagement distances for sniper and marksman rifles before play.
