Description
Army R17 Magazine Knocker/Outlet Valve (#216)
This is a replacement magazine knocker, or outlet valve, for Army Armament R17-series gas blowback pistols, listed as part number 216. The outlet valve sits at the top of the gas magazine and releases a measured burst of gas each time the pistol’s knocker strikes it, so it is one of the most important small parts in any GBB pistol.
Army Armament’s 17-series pistols are popular, affordable Glock-style gas blowback pistols. A worn or leaking outlet valve is a common cause of weak shots, gas leaks and poor cycling, and replacing it is usually a quick, inexpensive way to bring a magazine back to life.
How the outlet valve works
When you pull the trigger, the hammer drives the knocker into the outlet valve, which opens briefly and lets gas flow up into the nozzle. That gas fires the BB and drives the slide back. If the valve leaks, sticks or does not open fully, you may see gas escaping from the top of the magazine, weak power or a slide that does not cycle properly.
Signs it needs replacing
Hissing from the top of the magazine, gas loss overnight that is not from the fill valve, inconsistent power or a valve that stays open after firing all point to a worn outlet valve or seal. Replacing it is often enough to fix the problem.
Fitting
Empty the magazine of gas completely before you start. Remove the old valve with a suitable valve key, check the seat is clean, then fit the new valve firmly but without over-tightening. Refill with gas and check for leaks with the magazine upright and inverted.
