Big Foot Elastic rope helmet cover (WL)
The Big Foot elastic rope helmet cover is a fabric cover that slips over an airsoft helmet to change its colour and pattern, with elastic rope (shock cord) to help it hold its shape on the shell. A bare helmet shell is often the most eye-catching part of a player’s silhouette: it sits high, it is a solid block of colour and it can catch the light. A patterned cover breaks up that shape and lets the helmet blend in with your uniform. It also protects the shell itself from scratches and scuffs and gives you an easy way to switch looks for different sites or events without buying another helmet.
Fitting the cover
Stretch the cover over the top of the helmet and work it down evenly around the sides, then use the elastic rope to draw it in so it sits snugly without bunching. Make sure it does not cover anything you need to reach, and check that any mounts, rails or straps you rely on still work as they should with the cover in place.
Helmet covers come in different sizes and cuts for different helmet styles, so compare it with your helmet before cutting or modifying anything. If the cover sits loosely, tightening the elastic rope will usually take up the slack.
Making the most of it
On covers with elastic rope, many players tuck a little scrim, hessian strips or local foliage under the cord to break up the outline of the helmet further, which can work well for woodland games and milsim events. Keep anything you add light and secure so it does not flop in front of your eyes or catch on branches.

Care and maintenance
Brush off mud and dirt once it has dried. If the cover needs washing, remove it from the helmet and hand wash it in cool water with a mild detergent, then let it dry naturally away from direct heat, which can shrink fabric and weaken elastic. Check the elastic rope from time to time and replace it if it has lost its stretch. Store the helmet and cover somewhere dry so the fabric does not go mouldy between games.
