AT A GLANCE

Product overview

The Cyma CM517 is a short, stubby M4-pattern electric rifle from Cyma's Sports Line, finished in black. It is designed for close-quarter play, with a compact handguard and barrel that make it easy to move through buildings, doorways and tight woodland, and it is light enough for younger and smaller players to carry all day.

Can I buy this? This is a realistic replica (RIF). UK law needs a valid defence to buy one, usually UKARA registration, which you get by playing three games over two months at one site. No UKARA? See two-tone versions: you just need to be 18 or over. Questions? Ask us.

Description

Cyma CM517 M4 Short AEG (Sports Line, Black)

The Cyma CM517 is a short, stubby M4-pattern electric rifle from Cyma’s Sports Line, finished in black. It is designed for close-quarter play, with a compact handguard and barrel that make it easy to move through buildings, doorways and tight woodland, and it is light enough for younger and smaller players to carry all day.

The Sports Line is Cyma’s entry-level range, built to give new players a dependable gun at a sensible price, and the CM517 shares the well-proven internals of Cyma’s bigger M4 models. It makes a great first gun, a handy CQB backup or a reliable loan gun for friends and family.

Build and design

The body is polymer, which keeps the weight low and stands up well to bumps and scrapes. The short front handguard carries 20mm rails for accessories such as a torch, laser or foregrip, and the receiver has a top rail for a red dot or other optic. The adjustable stock lets you set the length of pull to suit your build and kit, and it houses the battery.

The stubby layout keeps the weight close to your body, so the gun is quick to point and comfortable to hold in the aim.

Performance and internals

Inside is a metal Version 2 gearbox, the most widely supported AEG gearbox design, so spares and upgrades are easy to find later on. The hop-up is adjustable, letting you tune the backspin for your chosen BB weight. The magazine holds 300 BBs, giving plenty of ammunition between reloads.

Fire modes are safe, semi and full auto. In CQB games, semi-auto is often the better choice; it is accurate, saves ammunition and many indoor sites prefer it.

Using it in CQB

Short M4s really come into their own indoors. Keep the gun tucked in close as you move, lead with the muzzle around corners, and use a simple red dot sight for fast target pick-up. A sling makes it easy to transition to a sidearm.

Compatibility

Takes standard M4/AR-15-pattern AEG magazines. The Version 2 gearbox accepts standard V2 parts, and the 20mm rails accept standard rail accessories and optics. When buying a battery, choose one that fits a stock battery space and check the connector matches the gun.

Care and maintenance

Take the battery out of the gun whenever you are not using it, and store LiPo batteries at storage charge in a fire-resistant bag. Never leave a battery charging unattended.

Use good quality, seamless 6mm BBs; cheap or damaged BBs are the most common cause of jams and can damage the hop-up rubber. Run a cleaning rod with a dry patch through the inner barrel every few games, and if a BB jams, clear it with the rod from the muzzle end with the battery removed.

After each game wipe the outside down to remove dirt and moisture, and let the gun dry at room temperature if it has been out in the rain. Turn the hop-up back off when storing it for long periods, and leave the gun on safe and on semi rather than full auto, so the spring is not left compressed.

Who is it for?

The CM517 is ideal for beginners, younger players and anyone who plays mainly at CQB or indoor sites. It also makes a light, dependable backup or loan gun for experienced players.

Please note: Please check the listing for whether a battery and charger are included. BBs are sold separately. Always wear suitable eye and face protection and check the rules at your site before play.
