The Enola Gaye WP40 is a hand-held Wire Pull smoke grenade, here in black (WP08BK). Enola Gaye is a long-established UK specialist in smoke and pyrotechnics for airsoft, paintball, film and photography, and the WP40 is one of its best-known products.
Black smoke is the most dramatic colour in the range. It gives a dense, dark cloud that stands out against sky and open ground, making it a favourite for photographers and video makers as well as for players who want to screen a push or mark a moment in a scenario game.
How it works
The WP40 uses Enola Gaye’s Wire Pull ignition system. There is no striker, match or lighter to deal with: pull the ring to the side, then throw or place the grenade. Smoke vents from a single opening at the top.
Enola Gaye rate the WP40 at a 90 second burn time, and place it at size 3 on their cloud-size scale, so it produces a substantial volume of smoke for its size.
On the field and on set
In airsoft and paintball, smoke is used to hide movement across open ground, cover an objective push or signal teammates. Black smoke is especially effective for staged photo and film work, where a strong colour contrast matters. Plan your use around wind direction, as even a light breeze will carry the cloud quickly.

Compatibility
Self-contained and needs no launcher or striker. Can be thrown or placed by hand. Always check that your airsoft or paintball site allows pyrotechnics and smoke, and whether it has a preferred colour for signalling.
Care and maintenance
Store pyrotechnics in their original packaging in a cool, dry place, away from heat, flames, sparks and children. Do not carry them loose in pockets where the pull ring could snag. Never try to dismantle, modify or relight a device, and never pick up a device that has failed to function: leave it, keep clear and follow your site’s procedures.
Read and follow the instructions printed on the product before use. Use outdoors only, with the landowner’s permission, and keep the smoke away from roads, livestock and anything that could be alarmed or put at risk by it.
