Description
HFC – HG160 – W10-J6 – COUGAR – Magazine feed lips
These are replacement magazine feed lips for the HFC HG160 Cougar gas pistol, part reference W10-J6. The HG160 is HFC’s compact Cougar-style gas pistol, and like any gas pistol its magazines rely on the feed lips to present each BB correctly.
The feed lips sit at the very top of a gas pistol magazine. They hold the next BB in place under spring pressure until the slide or loading nozzle pushes it forward into the hop-up. Because they take a knock every time a magazine is dropped or slammed home, they are one of the most common wear parts on any gas pistol.
Signs you need new feed lips
Typical signs of worn or broken feed lips are BBs falling out of the top of a loaded magazine, two BBs being pushed into the hop-up at once, the pistol cycling without firing a BB, or BBs rolling out of the barrel. Visible cracks or splayed lips confirm the problem.
For compact pistols such as the Cougar, where spare magazines can be harder to find, replacing the feed lips is a practical way to keep the magazines you already own working.
Fitting
Empty the magazine of all gas and BBs before you start. The feed lips are usually held at the top of the magazine by a small pin or screw, and there may be small springs or a gas router underneath, so work over a tray and keep track of every part as it comes out.
Fit the new part in the same orientation as the old one, then check that the follower moves freely and that BBs sit correctly in the lips before you gas the magazine. Test the magazine with a small fill first and look and listen for leaks.

Care and maintenance
Keep magazines clean and avoid dropping them loaded onto concrete or other hard ground. A drop of silicone oil on the fill valve every few fills helps the seals stay supple.
Store magazines with a little gas in them and away from heat. Clean off any grit around the top of the magazine before loading BBs, as dirt can stop the lips holding BBs properly.
Who is it for?
For owners of the HFC HG160 Cougar whose magazines have started to misfeed, and for techs who service HFC pistols.
Please note: Supplied as the part only; the magazine, pistol, gas and BBs are not included. Wear eye protection when testing gas magazines.
