Description
JG M4 Series (Gearbox Shell Only – Full Metal)
This is a full metal gearbox shell for JG’s M4 series AEGs, supplied as the shell only, without internal parts. It is a replacement or rebuild part for owners who need a new casing, whether because the original has cracked or because they want a fresh shell as the basis for a custom gearbox build.
JG (Jing Gong) is one of the longest-established airsoft manufacturers, and its M4 series AEGs are widely used, so a direct replacement shell is a useful part to have available. M4-pattern AEGs use the Version 2 gearbox layout, the most common gearbox design in airsoft.
What the shell does
The gearbox shell is the casing that holds an AEG’s internals in alignment: the gears, piston, cylinder, spring, trigger unit and selector parts. If the shell is cracked or worn, the internals can move under load, leading to poor performance and further damage. A front crack near the cylinder is a common failure in heavily used or over-sprung gearboxes, and a new metal shell is the correct fix.
Shell only
This listing is for the shell only. To build a working gearbox you will need to transfer or supply the internal parts, such as gears, bushings or bearings, piston, cylinder, cylinder head, nozzle, spring and spring guide, trigger assembly, tappet plate and anti-reversal latch. Gearbox work requires care and some experience; if you are not confident, ask an experienced technician to do the build.
Key features
- Full metal gearbox shell (as listed)
- For JG M4 series AEGs
- Shell only: no internal parts included
- Replaces a cracked or worn shell
- A base for a custom gearbox build
Compatibility
Listed for JG M4 series AEGs. Check that your rifle is a JG M4 series model before ordering, and compare the product photos with your existing shell, including the wiring type (front or rear) and the shape of the cylinder window. Internal parts made for standard Version 2 gearboxes are generally the starting point, but fit can vary between makers, so check each part before final assembly.
Care and maintenance
Before assembly, clean the shell of any machining debris, check the bushing or bearing seats are smooth, and use a suitable gearbox grease sparingly on moving parts. Shim the gears correctly to reduce wear and noise.
Keep the spring within your site’s limits, as excessive spring power is a common cause of shell cracks. Store spare parts dry and free of grit until fitted.
Who is it for?
Owners of JG M4 series AEGs who need to replace a damaged shell, and technicians building or rebuilding a Version 2 gearbox.
Please note: This is the gearbox shell only; no internal parts are included.
