Description
Tokyo Marui M40A5 Sniper Rifle (OD)
The Tokyo Marui M40A5 is a spring-powered, bolt-action replica of the M40A5 sniper rifle, with an olive drab (OD) McMillan-style stock. Tokyo Marui is the Japanese maker whose designs set the standard for much of the airsoft industry, and its M40A5 is known for being accurate out of the box and pleasant to shoot.
It is a strong choice for players starting out in the sniper role and for experienced players who want a dependable, well-made rifle to build on. Tokyo Marui’s attention to detail shows in practical touches such as a short bolt stroke, an adjustable trigger and a magazine safety feature.
Build and materials
The stock is resin in OD, with a cheekpiece that adjusts up and down and left to right, and four butt-plate spacers so you can set the length of pull. The outer barrel, muzzle brake, receiver and mount base are metal. The rifle measures about 1,200mm and weighs about 5.48kg, which helps it settle steadily in the aim.
A mount base for optics and a 20mm Picatinny accessory mount are included in the design, so you can fit a scope and accessories.
How it works
The bolt has a shortened 68mm stroke, making it quicker and easier to cycle than many bolt-action rifles, and a cocking indicator and bolt handle lock help you see the rifle’s state at a glance. The trigger weight and stroke are adjustable. A BB loading safety stops BBs entering the chamber when no magazine, or an empty magazine, is fitted.
The 35-round magazine has a pressed steel outer casing. The hop-up is adjustable, so you can tune it for heavier BBs; Tokyo Marui rifles are designed around high-quality BBs, so use good seamless ammunition.
On the field
Spring power means no battery or gas, so the M40A5 performs the same in any weather. Find a good position, settle the rifle and take deliberate, aimed shots. Its length suits woodland and open sites rather than tight CQB.

Care and maintenance
Spring rifles are mechanically simple and very reliable, but they still benefit from regular care. Keep the inner barrel clean by running a cleaning rod and dry patch through it every few games; a clean barrel and hop-up rubber are the key to consistent shots.
Always store the rifle uncocked so the main spring is not left under tension, and remove the magazine and any loose BBs after play. Use seamless, good quality BBs in the weight that suits your hop-up setting.
Wipe the outside down after use, dry it properly if it has been wet, and keep it in a padded bag or case. A tiny amount of silicone grease on moving parts during servicing keeps the action smooth; avoid petroleum-based oils, which can damage seals.
Who is it for?
The M40A5 suits new sniper players who want a rifle that works well straight away, and experienced players looking for a quality Tokyo Marui base for a sniper build.
Please note: Scope not included. Always wear suitable eye and face protection, and check your site’s power limits and minimum engagement distances for sniper rifles before play.
