Description

Vigor P9A Spring Pistol (Blue)

The Vigor P9A is a manually cocked spring pistol finished in blue, with the compact, square-shouldered lines of a modern service pistol. It is part of Vigor’s range of affordable spring replicas and is designed to be easy to use and easy to own: no gas, no CO2 and no battery, just cock the slide and shoot.

The blue colour clearly marks it out as a replica, which is reassuring when shooting at home, and the simple spring action is ideal for anyone getting into airsoft for the first time. It makes a fun plinker for paper targets and tin cans, a training aid for safe handling, and an inexpensive spare to keep in your kit.

How it works

Pull the slide back to compress the spring and load a BB from the magazine; squeeze the trigger and the spring drives a piston forward, pushing a burst of air behind the BB. You get one shot every time you cock the pistol, and because the power comes from a spring rather than gas, it performs the same on a cold winter morning as on a warm summer afternoon.

That steady, deliberate pace makes the P9A a good tool for learning the basics of marksmanship: a consistent grip, a clear sight picture and a smooth trigger squeeze.

Handling

The pistol is light and compact, so it is easy for most hands to hold and cock. The grip angle gives a natural point of aim, and the simple controls mean there is very little to learn before you can start shooting. Remember to treat it as you would any replica: keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot, and always point it in a safe direction.

Getting the best from it

Load the magazine carefully, one BB at a time, and avoid forcing more in than it is designed to hold. Shoot at a safe backstop such as a cardboard box filled with old cloth, or a purpose-made BB trap, so that BBs are caught rather than bouncing back. Paper targets at five to ten metres are a good starting distance, and moving back gradually as your grouping tightens is an enjoyable way to measure progress.

If shots start to drift or the pistol feels less lively, check the BBs first, as damaged or dirty BBs are the usual culprit, then give the inner barrel a quick clean. A spring pistol that is looked after in this simple way will give a lot of shooting for very little cost.

Key features

  • Spring powered: no gas, CO2 or battery needed
  • Manually cocked, one shot per cock
  • Compact modern pistol styling
  • Blue finish for easy identification
  • Light and easy to handle
  • Consistent in any temperature
  • Low running costs
  • Simple, low-maintenance design

Compatibility

Fires standard 6mm airsoft BBs, with 0.12g to 0.20g a sensible range for a spring pistol. Use the magazine supplied with the pistol, as magazines from other models are unlikely to fit. It is a spring replica, so it does not use gas, CO2 or batteries.

Care and maintenance

Spring pistols are about as simple as airsoft gets, which makes them very easy to look after. Wipe the pistol down after use, keep it free of grit and moisture, and run a cleaning rod with a clean patch through the inner barrel occasionally to keep it shooting straight. Use good quality seamless 6mm BBs; light 0.12g BBs and poorly made ammunition are the most common causes of jams and inconsistent shots.

Do not store the pistol cocked, as leaving the spring compressed for long periods weakens it over time. Avoid dry-firing (firing without BBs) more than you need to, keep the magazine spring in good order by not leaving it fully loaded for weeks at a time, and store the pistol indoors at room temperature.

Who is it for?

A good first pistol for newcomers and younger shooters under adult supervision, and a handy, inexpensive plinker for anyone who wants simple target practice at home.

Please note: BBs are not included unless stated above. Always wear suitable eye and face protection and check the safety rules at your site before play.
