Description
Carp Flat Pear 1.75oz
This 1.75oz (50g) flat pear is a classic carp lead. Its flattened pear shape grips the lakebed and resists rolling, which keeps your rig in place on slopes, in a light tow or when you tighten your line down to a bite alarm. It also provides the resistance needed for a bolt rig, helping the hook set when a fish picks up the bait.
At 1.75oz it is well suited to fishing at close to medium range on lakes and slower rivers. It enters the water with less disturbance than heavier leads, which can make a difference when fishing near the margins or over shallow spots where fish are easily spooked.
Why choose a flat pear
Round leads can roll down slopes or drift in the tow, moving your rig away from your bait. A flat pear sits flat and stays where it lands. Dragging it slowly back over the bottom also gives you useful feedback about whether you are on gravel, silt or weed.
Setting it up
Use a flat pear on a lead clip system so the lead can be ejected if it becomes snagged, as an inline lead for a direct hook set, or as a running lead on the mainline. Whatever set-up you choose, make sure the lead can come free if the mainline breaks, so a fish is never left towing a rig.
