SPRAT LEAD HEADS 1oz

Description

Sprat Lead Heads 1oz

These Sprat Lead Heads are fish-shaped jig heads weighing 1oz. They are designed to add extra weight and action to soft plastic lures, so your lure casts further, gets down to the fish and swims with a lively, natural movement. The sprat-shaped head gives a baitfish profile that predators find hard to ignore.

Jig heads are one of the simplest and most effective ways to fish soft lures. Thread on a shad, paddle tail or worm, clip on and cast: the weighted head does the work of carrying the lure out and down, and the shape of the head helps it swim and flutter on the drop.

Why 1oz?

The 1oz head is a good all-rounder for shore and boat fishing. It gives extra casting distance and gets the lure down quickly in deeper water or moderate tide, making it a sound choice for bass, cod and pollack, and for predators in deep fresh water.

How to fish them

Push the hook point into the nose of your soft lure, thread it on so the lure sits straight, and bring the hook out along the back so the lure runs true. Cast out, let it sink until the line goes slack or you feel bottom, then retrieve. A steady retrieve makes a paddle tail kick; a sink-and-draw retrieve, lifting the rod and letting the lure flutter back down, is deadly when fish are close to the bottom. Most takes come as the lure drops, so watch the line and strike at any twitch.

Key features

• Fish-shaped sprat jig head
• Weight: 1oz
• Adds casting weight to soft plastic lures
• Gives lures a lively, baitfish-like action
• Good all-rounder for shore and boat

Compatibility

Pair the jig head with a soft lure of a matching size so the hook sits in the right place along the body; shads, paddle tails, curly tails and worms all work well. Use a rod with a casting weight that covers 1oz, and a braid or mono main line with a fluorocarbon or mono leader to resist abrasion on rocks, weed and wrecks.

Care and maintenance

After sea use, rinse jig heads in fresh water and let them dry before putting them back in the box, which helps keep hooks sharp and rust-free. Check hook points regularly and touch them up with a hook sharpener or replace the head if the point is blunt or the hook is bent. Store soft lures separately from hard baits, as some plastics can react with other materials.

Who is it for?
