Description

A&K M249 Para with Sound Control Drum Magazine (Black – AK-M249-PARA-P)

The A&K M249 Para is an electric airsoft replica of the shortened paratrooper version of the M249 light machine gun, finished in black. With a shorter barrel than the standard M249, it is easier to manoeuvre around buildings, vehicles and dense woodland, while still delivering the sustained fire a support gunner needs. It comes with A&K’s sound control magazine and a bipod.

A&K is one of the best-known names in airsoft support weapons, and its M249-family replicas have been a staple of support gunners for years. They are known for being robust, straightforward to run and easy to maintain. The Para is a great choice for players who want to run a support role but prefer something a little more compact than a full-length M249.

Build and materials

The supplier lists the Para at around 925mm long, with a polymer receiver and metal outer barrel, rail system and furniture. A 20mm rail on top lets you add an optic, and the adjustable iron sights give a dependable fallback.

The shorter overall length makes a real difference when moving through doorways or getting in and out of vehicles, and it is easier to bring to the shoulder quickly in close terrain.

Performance and internals

The Para uses A&K’s own gearbox, with an inner barrel listed at 350mm with a 6.03mm bore. The hop-up is adjustable. Fire modes are safe and full auto, as you would expect of a support weapon.

As with all support guns, controlled bursts are the most effective way to use it, and they help keep the gun and battery running well over a long game day.

The sound control magazine

The included box magazine uses A&K’s sound control system. Rather than holding a wind button down, the magazine listens for the change in sound as the gun fires and dry fires, and winds itself to keep BBs feeding. It can also be switched to wind continuously. The magazine motor runs on its own small batteries (AA batteries are commonly used), which are not supplied, so fit fresh ones before a game.

Being able to fire long bursts without stopping to wind makes a real difference in a support role, and the large capacity means far fewer trips back to reload. Spare A&K M249 box magazines are available if you want to carry a second one.

Compatibility

The M249 Para works with A&K M249 box magazines. Many A&K M249-family guns also accept Tokyo Marui-style M4/M16 AEG magazines; check your gun before buying spares. The top rail accepts standard 20mm optics and mounts.

Care and maintenance

Remove the main battery and the magazine’s batteries after every game. Keep the inner barrel clean with a rod and patch, as support guns put a lot of BBs through the barrel and dirt builds up quickly. Use good quality, seamless BBs, and do not overfill the box magazine, which can cause jams.

Check the bipod, feed cover and stock screws before each game, and wipe the gun down after muddy or wet days, letting it dry before casing it. Long full-auto strings work the motor and gearbox hard, so give the gun short rests between very long bursts, and have the gearbox serviced by an experienced technician from time to time.

Who is it for?

Support players who want a more compact M249 for woodland, CQB and vehicle-based games, with an auto-winding magazine for sustained fire.

Please note: Main battery, charger and magazine batteries are not included. Always wear suitable eye protection when using airsoft replicas.
