Description

A&K Tactical 7870 Tri-Shot Shotgun (Full Metal, Black, SXR-005)

The A&K Tactical 7870 Tri-Shot is a full metal, pump-action airsoft shotgun in the style of the famous M870 tactical shotgun. It fires three BBs with each shot, has a railed receiver for optics and a retractable, EBR-style tactical stock, and is built to take the knocks of regular skirmishing.

A&K is known for affordable replicas of popular platforms, and its 7870 has long been a favourite with players who want a solid, metal shotgun without paying for a premium gas model. It suits players who want a dependable close-quarters primary, or a heavy, realistic shotgun for themed games.

Build and materials

UK retailer Defcon Airsoft describes the 7870 as made mainly from metal, with a full metal adjustable EBR-style tactical stock offering six positions, an integrated pistol grip and integrated sling loops. The metal build gives the shotgun real weight, listed at about 3.2kg, which helps it feel steady when you work the pump and shoulder it quickly.

Defcon lists a 255mm barrel and a built-in 20mm RIS rail for sights and scopes, so a red dot or other compact optic can be mounted. The retailer gives a length of 724mm in one place and 902mm with the stock adjusted in another, so please check the photos and allow for the stock adjustment when choosing a bag.

How it works

The 7870 is spring powered, so there are no batteries to charge and no gas to run out of in cold weather. Each stroke of the pump cocks the shotgun, and a pull of the trigger sends three BBs downrange together. That spread makes it easier to land hits at close range, particularly on players moving between cover.

Defcon lists a shotgun-shell-style magazine as included and describes it as compatible with standard airsoft shotgun shells. Work the pump through its full stroke every time; a short stroke can cause misfeeds in any tri-shot system.

On the field

This is a close-quarters tool. Use it in buildings, trenches and dense woodland, hold doorways and cover corners, and move between cover in short bounds. Carry spare loaded shells, as three BBs per shot uses ammunition quickly, and keep them clean in a pouch so no grit gets into the feed.

Compatibility

Defcon describes the supplied shell as compatible with standard airsoft shotgun shells, but shell designs vary between makers, so check with us before buying several spares. The 20mm rail takes standard optic mounts.

Use high-quality seamless 6mm BBs. Spring tri-shot shotguns generally work best with lighter BB weights, so try a few to see what suits yours.

Care and maintenance

Keep the shells or magazine and the loading area free from grit and mud, and wipe the shotgun over after each game. Run a cleaning rod through the barrel occasionally, and use only clean, high-quality seamless BBs, as a single damaged BB can jam a multi-shot system.

Work the pump smoothly through its full stroke rather than slamming it, and store the shotgun uncocked so the spring is not left compressed. Keep it somewhere cool and dry between games.

Check the stock and rail screws now and then, as metal fittings can work loose with regular use.

Who is it for?

The A&K 7870 suits players who want a heavy, metal pump-action shotgun for CQB and close woodland, at a much lower cost than a gas shotgun.

Please note: BBs are not listed as included. Always wear suitable eye protection, and full-face protection where your site requires it, when using or testing any airsoft replica.
