The APS “Boar Tactical” Silver Edge 17″ KeyMod is a competition-styled M4 electric airsoft rifle (AEG) from APS’s 3 Gun line, finished here in black. It combines a long KeyMod handguard, a trimmed, lightened-look lower receiver and APS’s Silver Edge gearbox, giving a rifle that looks like a modern practical-shooting build and performs as a capable skirmisher. Build and design
UK retailer Defcon Airsoft, listing the red ASR-119 version, describes a metal body, gearbox and KeyMod handguard, with a plastic butt stock, pistol grip and magazine, and a “Boar Tactical” mark on a trimmed lower receiver. It gives a weight of about 3.8kg. The handguard is named 17 inches in the title, while the retailer’s description refers to a 16-inch KeyMod system; either way, it is a long handguard that gives plenty of room for your support hand and accessories.
Defcon also describes a straight RAF-style trigger, a feature borrowed from competition rifles that gives a consistent finger position and a crisp feel on semi-automatic shots.
Silver Edge internals
Silver Edge is APS’s name for its upgraded gearbox design. For the ASR-119, Defcon lists the Silver Edge gearbox with 8mm bearing bushings, a 6.04mm inner barrel, an adjustable hop-up, safe, semi and full-auto fire, and a 300-round magazine. These features are intended to give dependable cycling and consistent shots out of the box.

Handling and set-up
The long KeyMod handguard takes KeyMod accessories and rail sections, so you can position a grip, torch or laser exactly where you want them. Compatibility
As an M4-pattern AEG, the rifle is designed around M4/M16-style AEG magazines; try one magazine before buying a full set, as magwell tolerances vary. Check the battery space and connector type in the stock before choosing a battery.

Care and maintenance
Take the battery out after every game and store it separately at a sensible storage charge, rather than leaving it connected inside the replica. Charge LiPo batteries with a proper balance charger, keep them in a LiPo-safe bag and never leave them charging unattended; NiMH packs should be charged with a smart charger that stops when the pack is full.
Run a cleaning rod with a lightly dampened patch through the inner barrel from time to time to clear dirt and residue, which keeps the hop-up consistent. Use good-quality seamless BBs, never reuse BBs that have been on the ground, and wipe the outside over after damp or muddy games. Leave gearbox work, shimming and spring changes to a competent technician.
