Description
Ares Amoeba Octa Arms Honey Badger AEG (Black, AM-016-BK)
The Ares Amoeba AM-016 Octa Arms Honey Badger is a compact electric airsoft rifle in the style of the Honey Badger PDW, finished in black. It combines a short barrel with a long free-float handguard and a skeleton stock, giving a sleek, modern carbine that handles beautifully in buildings and woodland alike.
Ares is a well-known Hong Kong manufacturer, and its Amoeba range is designed to offer modern features at a sensible price. The AM-016 stands out for its electronic gearbox with an integrated MOSFET, which gives a sharp trigger response and programmable fire modes, making it a strong choice for players who want a light, responsive and highly capable rifle.
Design and handling
Defcon Airsoft lists the AM-016 at 720mm to 820mm long and 2.44kg, with a polymer body and nylon fibre dust cover. It describes an Octarms KM-002 13.5-inch free-float RIS/KeyMod handguard with a full-length top 20mm rail of about 50cm, giving plenty of room for optics and accessories.
The six-position skeleton stock adjusts with an ambidextrous button, and the listing also describes removable flip-up iron sights, an Amoeba APT Pro pistol grip, a mock charging handle and forward assist, and a Shield Crush flash hider.
Electronic gearbox
The headline feature is Ares’s electronic gearbox, which Defcon describes as having an integrated MOSFET, a Rapid Response Electronic Trigger System and a magnet-controlled fire selector plate. Fire modes can be reprogrammed with the Ares EFCS Gearbox Programmer, which is sold separately, with options listed as safe, semi, full auto and three-round burst.
The listing also gives a radial hop-up unit, an RVTS quick-change spring system and a high-torque motor. The quick-change spring system makes it easier for a technician to adjust power to suit different sites.
Battery and magazine
Defcon lists an extended battery compartment for LiPo stick batteries and notes that trigger response is best with LiPo. It gives a 300-round high-capacity magazine with a built-in magazine pull.

Compatibility
The AM-016 is an M4-pattern rifle, so it is designed around M4/M16-style AEG magazines; Ares Amoeba magazines are the safest choice, and tolerances vary between brands. KeyMod accessories fit the handguard, and standard 20mm optics fit the top rail.
Ares electronic gearboxes use some specific parts, so check with us before buying upgrades. The EFCS Gearbox Programmer is needed to change fire-mode settings. Use 0.20g to 0.25g high-quality seamless BBs.
Care and maintenance
Take the battery out after every game and store it separately at a sensible storage charge, rather than leaving it connected inside the replica. Charge LiPo batteries with a proper balance charger, keep them in a LiPo-safe bag and never leave them charging unattended; NiMH packs should be charged with a smart charger that stops when the pack is full.
Run a cleaning rod with a lightly dampened patch through the inner barrel from time to time to clear dirt and residue, which keeps the hop-up consistent. Use good-quality seamless BBs, never reuse BBs that have been on the ground, and wipe the outside over after damp or muddy games. Leave gearbox work, shimming and spring changes to a competent technician.
Electronic gearboxes protect themselves against some faults, but avoid running batteries flat, and follow the manual if the rifle signals an error.
Who is it for?
The Honey Badger suits players who want a compact, light and highly responsive rifle with modern electronics, especially for CQB and fast-moving games.
Please note: Battery, charger, gearbox programmer and BBs are not listed as included. Always wear suitable eye protection, and full-face protection where your site requires it, when using or testing any airsoft replica.
