Description

Ares APC-9 AEG SMG with ETU (Black – A9-BK)

The Ares APC-9 (A9-BK) is a black, electric SMG modelled on the Arrow Dynamic Arms A9 design, and this package comes with three magazines in short, medium and long lengths. It has a compact, modern profile with a metal upper receiver, a slim polymer lower and grip, and a sliding stock that makes it one of the handiest SMG-style AEGs for CQB and close woodland play.

Ares is known for building its own electronics into its replicas, and the APC-9 uses the Ares EFCS Version 2 gearbox with a programmable MOSFET and electronic trigger unit. Add fully ambidextrous controls and a clever hop-up access arrangement, and you have a well thought-out SMG that suits both right- and left-handed players.

Build and ergonomics

The upper receiver is metal, while the lower receiver and slim pistol grip are polymer, keeping the weight manageable. A long Picatinny rail runs along the top for optics, and three shorter rails on the sides and underside of the handguard take lights, lasers and grips. Flip-up iron sights are fitted as a backup.

The sliding, multi-position stock collapses fully forward for the most compact size and extends by pulling the stock pad until it locks in place. The charging handle and other controls are fully ambidextrous.

Performance and internals

The Ares EFCS Version 2 gearbox has a quick spring change system accessible from the rear, so you can adjust the rifle’s output to suit different sites with minimal effort. The programmable EFCS MOSFET handles trigger response and protects the electrics. Fire modes are safe, semi and full-auto.

The adjustable hop-up is reached by pulling back the ambidextrous charging handle, which draws back the bolt to expose the hop unit, a similar arrangement to the M45 series. The barrel uses a tri-lug fitting like an MP5 rather than a thread, so a suppressor is sold separately.

Getting started

Fully charge a suitable battery before first use, then fit it as described in the manual and connect it carefully. Load a magazine, wind it if it is a high-capacity type, and start with the hop-up turned off. Fire a few shots at a safe target and add hop a little at a time until the BBs fly flat without rising at the end of their flight.

Have the rifle chronographed at your site before you play, and keep a note of the hop setting that suits your favourite BB weight so you can return to it quickly.

Compatibility

The battery fits inside the body: remove the rear body pin and take off the stock to reach the battery space, which needs a stick-type LiPo battery. Choose spare magazines made for the Ares APC-9. Muzzle accessories need a tri-lug fitting, such as the matching Ares APC-9 silencer, rather than a standard 14mm thread. The Picatinny rails take standard 20mm optics and accessories.

Care and maintenance

Take the battery out after every game and store it away from the rifle, and charge LiPo batteries only on a proper balance charger under supervision. Clean the inner barrel with a cleaning rod and a dry cloth patch every few games, as dirt and broken BB fragments are the main causes of flyers. Stick to good quality seamless BBs of a consistent weight.

Check screws, the flash hider and any mounts before each game day, and store the rifle somewhere dry. Leave the hop-up at a light setting in storage, and if the rifle has an electronic trigger unit, a fully charged battery helps it read the trigger cleanly.

Who is it for?

The APC-9 is ideal for CQB players, left-handed shooters who want proper ambidextrous controls, and anyone after a modern, compact SMG with quality electronics. With three magazine sizes included, it is also a good choice for players who attend sites with differing magazine rules.

Please note: a battery, charger and BBs are not listed as included, and the suppressor is sold separately. Always wear suitable eye and face protection when using airsoft replicas.
