Description

Ares Classic Line SMLE British No. 4 MK1(T) with Scope & Mount (CLA-005)

The Ares Classic Line CLA-005 is a spring-powered, bolt action replica of the British No. 4 Mk1(T), the sniper version of the No. 4 Lee Enfield that served British snipers through the Second World War and beyond. It is supplied with scope and mount, so it is ready to use in sniper configuration straight away.

Ares’ Classic Line focuses on historical rifles built with genuine wood furniture and heavy steel metalwork. The result is a replica with real presence, well suited to WW2 re-enactment, collecting and period games where authenticity matters.

Build and materials

Around 95 per cent of the metal parts are stainless steel, with a hard-wearing QPQ finish that resists corrosion and wear. The stock is good quality wood. At around 4.57kg and 1115mm long, the rifle has the weight and balance of a full-size service rifle, which helps keep it steady when aiming.

The supplied scope and mount give the rifle the distinctive (T) sniper profile, and save you hunting for a suitable period-style optic.

How it works

As a spring rifle, it needs no battery and no gas. Working the bolt cocks the spring and chambers a BB; pulling the trigger releases the piston and sends the shot on its way. Because the power comes entirely from the spring, performance stays the same on a frosty winter morning as on a warm summer afternoon, which makes it far more dependable in British weather than a gas-powered bolt action.

An adjustable hop-up lets you tune the backspin on the BB to suit the weight you are using. Start with the hop-up low, fire a few shots and increase it a little at a time until the BB flies flat and true without rising at the end of its flight.

Handling

The 35-round magazine gives plenty of shots between reloads, and the Lee Enfield bolt is famously smooth and quick to cycle. Take your time, use cover and a rest where you can, and the rifle’s weight and length will reward careful shooting.

Compatibility

Spare magazines are the Ares Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk1 / L42A1 35-round magazine. Use good quality, seamless 6mm BBs; heavier, high-grade BBs usually give the most consistent flight from a spring sniper rifle.

Care and maintenance

Wipe the metalwork with a lightly oiled cloth after use, especially after damp games, to keep the finish in good condition, and treat the wooden stock occasionally with a suitable stock oil or wax. Let the rifle dry naturally at room temperature before putting it back in its case.

Never leave the rifle cocked in storage, and avoid dry-firing it repeatedly without BBs, which puts extra stress on the piston and cylinder. Clean the inner barrel with a cleaning rod and a lightly dampened patch from time to time, and use only clean, good quality BBs.

Who is it for?

This rifle is ideal for WW2 re-enactors portraying British or Commonwealth snipers, collectors of British military history and players who enjoy period games with a classic bolt action.

Please note: Always wear suitable eye and face protection, and check the power limits and minimum engagement distances at your site before play.
