Description
Ares M4 Tappet Plate
This Ares tappet plate is a replacement gearbox part listed for Ares M4-series AEGs. It moves the air nozzle back to let each BB feed and forward to chamber it in the hop-up, so its condition has a direct effect on how reliably the replica feeds and how consistently it shoots.
Ares is known for its engineered AEGs, including its M4 range. Keeping a spare tappet plate in your kit is a sensible precaution, and fitting a new one is a routine part of a full gearbox service.
How a tappet plate works
The tappet plate is the part of an AEG gearbox that moves the air nozzle back and forth. As the sector gear turns, its tappet catch pulls the plate back, drawing the nozzle away from the hop-up so a BB can drop into the chamber. The tappet spring then pushes the nozzle forward to seat the BB in the hop-up rubber and seal it just before the piston is released.
Because it moves on every shot, a worn, cracked or warped tappet plate can cause misfeeds, double feeds, poor air seal and inconsistent range. Replacing it is a common fix during a gearbox service, and it is worth doing at the same time as changing the air nozzle if either is showing wear.
Fitting
Fitting a tappet plate means opening the gearbox, so it suits players who are comfortable working on AEG internals. Note the orientation of the tappet spring and the anti-reversal latch before removing anything, and take photos as you go. If you are not confident, an airsoft technician can fit it as part of a service.
After fitting, check that the plate slides freely without binding, that the nozzle returns fully forward and that BBs feed reliably with a few single shots before you return to full auto.
Key features
- Replacement tappet plate from Ares
- Listed for Ares M4-series AEGs
- Controls air nozzle movement and BB feeding
- Useful spare for a gearbox service
- Helps cure feeding and air-seal problems caused by wear
Compatibility
Listed for Ares M4-series AEGs. Many M4 replicas use a Version 2-type gearbox, but Ares gearboxes have their own design details, so a plate made for one maker’s gearbox may not suit another’s. Check your replica’s make and gearbox, and compare with the product photos, before ordering.
Care and maintenance
Inspect the tappet plate whenever the gearbox is open: look for cracks at the arm and the catch, and for wear where it meets the sector gear. Clean old grease and debris away and apply only a light film of suitable gearbox grease where the plate slides; too much grease can migrate to the nozzle and hop-up and affect accuracy.
Fit a new tappet spring if the old one is tired, and always use good quality seamless BBs, as broken or oversized BBs are a common cause of feeding problems.
Who is it for?
Owners of Ares M4-series AEGs and technicians who need a replacement tappet plate for a service or repair.
Please note: This is a gearbox component and requires the gearbox to be opened. If you are unsure, please have it fitted by a technician.
