The Ares M45X-S is a compact, SMG-style electric rifle that takes the familiar M4 control layout and pairs it with a pistol-calibre style magazine, creating a short, fast-handling gun for close-quarters play. This AR-084E version is finished in tan, with a retractable folding stock and an RIS handguard, and it comes with both a mid-cap and a low-cap magazine.
Ares built the M45 platform around a reinforced, dedicated gearbox with its integrated EFCS electronic module, an Ares slim motor and a metal receiver, giving a sharp trigger and a solid feel in a small package. Tool-less assembly and quick-change front sets make it unusually easy to strip and reconfigure, so it suits players who like to tailor their gun to each site.
Build and handling
The receiver is metal, with steel pins and screws, while the pistol grip is polymer. The RIS handguard offers rail space on all sides for a grip, torch or laser, and flip-up iron sights let you aim without an optic, while the top rail takes a red dot. The tan finish suits coyote and multi-terrain loadouts.
The retractable folding stock houses the battery and can be folded for transport. Please note that the gun cannot fire with the stock folded. The short overall length makes the M45X-S easy to move with through doorways, corridors and vehicles.
Electronics and performance
The integrated EFCS module includes a built-in MOSFET, which protects the trigger contacts and makes the gun suitable for LiPo batteries. It gives a crisp, responsive trigger on semi-auto, and with the optional Ares programmer you can set up burst and other fire-mode options.
The ambidextrous selector suits left and right-handed shooters, and tool-less disassembly means you can take the gun apart for cleaning or to change the front set without hunting for tools, which is handy in the safe zone between games.
Getting started
Before your first game, charge your battery fully on a suitable charger, fit it and check the rifle fires on safe, semi and auto as expected. Set the hop-up from zero, adding a little at a time until the BB holds a straight, flat line, and then check where it lands at the distances you usually shoot.
Your site will chronograph the rifle before play. Spend a few minutes learning how to change the battery and clear a jam so you are not doing it for the first time mid-game.

Compatibility
The M45X-S takes Ares M45 magazines, available in mid and low-capacity versions; standard M4 magazines will not fit. The battery sits in the stock, so choose a compact LiPo stick battery that fits and check the connector before ordering. Rail sections accept standard 20mm accessories. Front sets and many internal parts are specific to the Ares M45 series, so check compatibility before buying upgrades. The EFCS programmer is a separate purchase.
Care and maintenance
Unplug and remove the battery after use, store LiPos in a fire-safe bag, and charge them on a balance charger you are watching. Keep the inner barrel clean with a rod and patch, because a dirty barrel or hop-up rubber is the most common cause of poor grouping.
Use good quality, polished BBs and avoid reusing BBs picked up from the floor. Keep the rifle dry, check all external screws now and then, and leave internal servicing to someone who knows AEGs well.
