Description
Ares x Amoeba KW01 M4 PDW AEG (Black – KW-01)
The Ares x Amoeba KW01 is a compact M4-style personal defence weapon (PDW) built around Ares’ electronic gearbox technology and finished in black. It takes the familiar M4 layout and shrinks it into a short, quick-handling package with a retractable stock and an integrated foregrip, making it a natural choice for indoor sites, urban games and anyone who wants a light primary that is easy to carry all day.
Amoeba is the more affordable, player-focused range from Ares, and it is known for putting genuinely useful technology into polymer-bodied rifles at a sensible price. The KW01 follows that approach: a mainly polymer body keeps the price and the weight under control, while the 3rd-generation Electronic Firing Control System (EFCS) gearbox gives you the trigger response and programmable fire modes usually found on much more expensive rifles.
Build and handling
The body is mainly polymer, which shrugs off the knocks of CQB play and will not get painfully cold in winter. The listed weight is about 3.5kg. Up front, the Amoeba foregrip has an integrated grip, so your support hand has a secure, natural place to sit without adding a separate vertical grip, and a full-metal PDW-style blaster flash hider finishes off the muzzle.
The adjustable, retractable stock includes an arm-stabilising brace, letting you collapse the rifle right down for moving through doorways and vehicles, then extend it for a steadier hold when you need to take a longer shot. MP7-style sights are fitted, and a 20mm rail gives you room for a red dot or compact optic, which is the most popular choice on a rifle of this size.
EFCS gearbox and electronics
Inside is a metal EFCS gearbox using Ares’ 3rd-generation Electronic Firing Control System. Instead of mechanical trigger contacts, the electronics manage each shot, which gives a crisp, consistent trigger and avoids the contact wear found in older designs. A new slim-line motor and rear wiring keep the internal layout tidy.
The fire modes are programmable with the Ares electronic gearbox programmer, which is sold separately. Listed options include safe/semi/full auto, safe/semi/3-round burst, safe/3-round burst/full auto and safe/semi/semi, so you can set the rifle up for a semi-only site, a burst-fire play style or a conventional set-up. The hop-up is adjustable so you can match it to your BBs, and the battery, a small LiPo, sits in the stock.
Getting started
Before your first game, charge your battery fully on a suitable charger, fit it and check the rifle fires on safe, semi and auto as expected. Set the hop-up from zero, adding a little at a time until the BB holds a straight, flat line, and then check where it lands at the distances you usually shoot.
Your site will chronograph the rifle before play. Spend a few minutes learning how to change the battery and clear a jam so you are not doing it for the first time mid-game.

Compatibility
The KW01 is supplied with a 120-round magazine; please check with us which spare magazines suit this model before buying extras. The battery goes in the stock and needs to be a small LiPo, so check the dimensions and connector against the available space before ordering. The Ares EFCS programmer, sold separately, is needed to change the fire-mode settings.
The 20mm rail takes standard Picatinny and Weaver-mount optics and accessories.
Care and maintenance
Remove the battery whenever you are not using the rifle, and never leave a LiPo charging unattended. Run a cleaning rod with a clean patch through the inner barrel regularly to keep accuracy consistent, and only use clean, seamless BBs of a decent brand.
After muddy or wet games, wipe the outside down and let the rifle dry naturally before casing it. Check that rails, accessories and the stock are tight, and have any gearbox work carried out by an experienced technician.
Who is it for?
The KW01 suits CQB and urban players who want a short, light rifle with modern electronics, newer players stepping up from a basic AEG, and anyone who likes the PDW look with the reassurance of an Ares gearbox.
Please note: Battery and charger are not included; a small LiPo that fits the stock is needed. Always wear suitable eye and face protection when using or testing any airsoft replica, and have it chronographed at your site before play.
