Army Armament, usually shortened to Army, is a Taiwanese maker best known for its Hi-Capa and 1911-pattern pistols, including popular film-inspired and competition-style models.
The output valve, also called the release valve, sits at the top of the magazine and releases a measured burst of gas each time the hammer strikes it. If it sticks, leaks or does not open cleanly, the pistol can lose power, fail to cycle the slide or vent gas from the top of the magazine.
What the output valve does
When the hammer falls, it knocks the valve open and gas flows up into the nozzle, sending the BB down the barrel and driving the slide back. The valve then closes again ready for the next shot. Its seals and spring need to be in good condition for consistent shots.
When to replace it
Replace the output valve if gas leaks from the top of the magazine, if the magazine dumps its gas when the hammer strikes, or if a magazine produces weak or inconsistent shots compared with your others. Care and maintenance
Always empty the magazine of gas and BBs before taking it apart, and work over a tray or clean cloth so that small springs and screws are not lost. Note the order in which parts come out, or take photos as you go, so reassembly is straightforward.
Use a proper valve key to remove and fit the valve, and do not overtighten it. After fitting, put a drop of silicone oil on the magazine’s seals, fill with gas and check for leaks before use. Store magazines with a little gas in them so the seals stay seated, and never use petroleum-based oils or overfill.
