AT A GLANCE

Product overview

This is the ASG Steyr M9-A1 CO2 air pistol in 4.5mm (.177) calibre. It is a licensed replica of the Steyr M9-A1, a modern Austrian polymer-framed pistol, and it fires 4.5mm steel BBs using 12g CO2 capsules. Retailer listings describe it as a non-blowback design, so the slide stays still while you shoot, which keeps CO2 use low and gives plenty of shots per capsule.

Can I buy this? This is a realistic replica (RIF). UK law needs a valid defence to buy one, usually UKARA registration, which you get by playing three games over two months at one site. No UKARA? See two-tone versions: you just need to be 18 or over. Questions? Ask us.

Description

ASG Steyr M9-A1 CO2 Air Pistol 4.5mm

This is the ASG Steyr M9-A1 CO2 air pistol in 4.5mm (.177) calibre. It is a licensed replica of the Steyr M9-A1, a modern Austrian polymer-framed pistol, and it fires 4.5mm steel BBs using 12g CO2 capsules. Retailer listings describe it as a non-blowback design, so the slide stays still while you shoot, which keeps CO2 use low and gives plenty of shots per capsule.

Please note that this is a 4.5mm steel BB air pistol for target shooting and plinking, not a 6mm airsoft replica. It is a great choice for practising your marksmanship in a safe area with a suitable target and BB trap.

Design

Retailer listings describe a synthetic frame with textured grips and finger grooves, an overall length of about 7.36 inches with a 4.72 inch smooth bore barrel, and a weight of around 1.17lb. The M9-A1’s low bore axis and ergonomic grip give a comfortable, natural hold.

The listings also mention a front blade sight with a white dot, a fibre optic rear sight with a green insert, a manual safety, and a Weaver accessory rail under the barrel for a light or laser.

Shooting it

The pistol takes 4.5mm steel BBs in a removable magazine, listed as holding 19 rounds. With a non-blowback action, each pull of the trigger fires a shot without the slide moving, which is ideal for steady target practice.

Steel BBs can bounce back from hard surfaces, so always shoot at a proper BB trap or a soft backstop designed for steel BBs, and make sure everyone nearby wears eye protection.

Getting started

Read the manual first so you are familiar with the safety, loading the magazine and fitting a CO2 capsule. Put a drop of silicone oil on the tip of the capsule, fit it as the manual describes, and load the magazine with 4.5mm steel BBs.

Set up a BB trap in a safe area, check what is behind your target, and fire a few shots to get used to the trigger and sights before moving on to smaller targets or longer distances.

Key features

  • ASG Steyr M9-A1 air pistol
  • 4.5mm (.177) calibre
  • Fires steel BBs
  • Powered by 12g CO2 capsules
  • Non-blowback action for economical shooting (per retailer listing)
  • Removable 19-round magazine (per retailer listing)
  • Fibre optic rear sight and white dot front sight (per retailer listing)
  • Weaver accessory rail (per retailer listing)
  • Manual safety (per retailer listing)

Compatibility

Use only 4.5mm (.177) steel BBs and standard 12g CO2 capsules. Do not use lead pellets or 6mm airsoft BBs. The Weaver rail accepts compact lights and lasers designed for pistol rails.

Steel BB pistols should never be used for airsoft skirmishing; they are designed for target shooting only.

Care and maintenance

Always fire off or release any remaining gas before taking a CO2 capsule out, and never leave a capsule in the pistol for long periods. A drop of silicone oil on the tip of each new capsule helps keep the seals supple.

Wipe the action with a light film of silicone oil now and then, keep the barrel clean, and use only clean, good quality ammunition of the correct type. Store the pistol dry, unloaded and with no capsule fitted.

Who is it for?

This pistol suits adult shooters who want an accurate, economical CO2 air pistol for target practice and plinking, and fans of modern European pistol designs.

Please note: CO2 capsules and steel BBs are not included. Always wear suitable eye protection when shooting, and use a proper BB trap.
