Description
Carp Sack Keep Net
A carp sack is designed to retain a carp safely for a short time on the bank. It is used when you need a few minutes before you can deal with a fish properly, for example while you set up a camera, wait for a friend to help with a photograph or prepare your weigh sling and unhooking mat. The fish rests in the water inside the sack, rather than being kept out on the bank.
Used correctly, a sack is a responsible piece of fish-care kit. Many fisheries have clear rules about whether and how long carp may be retained, so it is important to check your venue’s rules before using one.
Using a carp sack
Wet the sack before putting a fish in it. Lower it gently into the margin and peg it out securely, making sure it sits in water deep enough for the fish to stay upright and away from strong sunlight. Choose a spot with good, well-oxygenated water, away from snags and boat traffic. Keep the retention time as short as possible, then return the fish gently in the water.
Avoid using a sack in very hot weather or in shallow, warm water, when oxygen levels are low. Never put more than one fish in a sack.
Key features
- Carp sack for safe, short-term retention
- Keeps the fish resting in the water
- Pegs out in the margin
- Useful for photographs and weighing
- Folds down for transport
Compatibility
Use with a bank stick or peg to secure the sack in the margin, and alongside an unhooking mat and weigh sling as part of a full fish-care set-up.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the sack in clean water after each use and dry it thoroughly before folding it away, to prevent smells, mould and damage to the material. Check the mesh, seams and closure regularly for holes or wear, and replace the sack if it is damaged. If you fish different waters, make sure it is fully dry between venues to help prevent the spread of disease and invasive species.
Who is it for?
Carp anglers who want a safe way to hold a fish briefly for photographs or weighing, and who fish waters where short-term retention is permitted.
