This is the Colt licensed CAR-15 Model 607 from EMG’s Lightning Series, a gas blowback rifle built by CYMA on its CGS system. The Model 607 was one of Colt’s earliest short CAR-15 carbines, with a very short barrel and a sliding stock, and it is a rare and distinctive design that stands out from more familiar M4-style rifles.

EMG holds licences for a range of real-world firearms brands, and its Colt Lightning Series rifles are built by CYMA around its CGS gas system, which follows the layout of Tokyo Marui’s MWS gas blowback rifle.

Compatibility

Retailer listings for the Lightning Series describe compatibility with most Tokyo Marui MWS-spec magazines and upgrade parts, and listings for CYMA CGS rifles also mention CYMA CGS magazines. Fit can still vary between brands, so test any new magazine before relying on it in a game. AEG magazines will not fit. Use good quality seamless 6mm BBs and the gas recommended in the manual.

Care and maintenance

Keep the bolt carrier and the inside of the receiver lightly lubricated with a silicone-based gas blowback lubricant, and clean the inner barrel now and then with a rod and dry patch. Put a drop of silicone oil on each magazine’s fill valve and seals every few fills, store magazines with a little gas in them, and never overfill. Store the rifle unloaded and dry, and never use petroleum-based oils on seals.
