Description
D|Boys QD Spring Guide for V2 Gearbox (Polymer)
This is a quick-detach (QD) spring guide from D|Boys, made in polymer and intended for Version 2 AEG gearboxes. The spring guide sits at the back of the gearbox and holds the main spring in line as the piston travels. A QD guide is designed so that it can be released from the rear of the gearbox, letting you take the spring out and fit a different one without stripping the whole gearbox down.
D|Boys is a long-established maker of affordable AEGs and spare parts, and a polymer QD guide is a low-cost way to make spring changes quicker. It suits players who like to adjust their rifle for different sites, or anyone who would rather swap a spring in a few minutes than spend an evening rebuilding a gearbox.
How it works
On a standard gearbox the spring guide is trapped between the two halves of the shell, so changing the spring means opening the gearbox. A QD guide is retained at the rear instead, typically by a twist or catch arrangement, so it can be withdrawn backwards along with the spring. To use one, the gearbox shell and the rear of the replica need to allow access to the back of the gearbox; on M4-pattern rifles that usually means removing the stock and buffer tube parts that cover it.
Fitting
Fitting a spring guide is a gearbox job: the gearbox has to come out of the receiver and be opened once to install it. If you are not comfortable working inside a gearbox, we would recommend having it fitted by an experienced technician. Once in place, later spring changes are much quicker.
Key features
- Quick-detach spring guide
- Listed for Version 2 gearboxes
- Polymer construction
- Lets the main spring be changed from the rear
- Useful for tuning a rifle to different site limits
- Affordable spare from D|Boys
Compatibility
Listed for V2 gearboxes, as used in M4/M16-pattern and many other AEGs. QD spring guides generally need a gearbox shell made with a matching rear opening, and some shells and receivers will not accept them, so check your gearbox shell and the rear of your replica before ordering. Make sure the spring you plan to use suits the guide’s diameter.
Care and maintenance
Apply a thin film of grease where the spring rides on the guide and check the guide for cracks whenever you change the spring, as polymer parts can wear under heavy springs. Always chrono your replica after a spring change, and never dry-fire repeatedly while testing.
Who is it for?
A practical upgrade for players who regularly adjust their rifle’s power for different sites or roles and who already have, or are building, a QD-compatible V2 gearbox.
Please note: Check the power limits at your site after any spring change.
