Description
Double Eagle M401 Breacher Spring Shotgun (Black)
The Double Eagle M401 Breacher is a compact, pump-action spring shotgun in black. It feeds from a magazine rather than shells, and fires a single BB per shot, giving it the feel of a shotgun with the accuracy of a single projectile. It is simple, light and inexpensive, which makes it a popular choice for beginners and casual players.
Double Eagle is a long-established maker of affordable replicas, and the M401 follows that approach: an easy-to-use, low-maintenance gun that needs no battery or gas and is ready to play out of the box.
How it works
Load the 20-round magazine through the bottom of the gun, rack the pump to cock the spring and chamber a BB, then pull the trigger. Because it is spring powered, every shot is cocked by hand, and the gun works the same in any weather.
Rack the pump fully on every shot for reliable feeding, and keep the shotgun pointed in a safe direction while you do so.
Handling
As the ‘Breacher’ name suggests, the M401 is a compact shotgun designed for close-quarters work. Its short length makes it easy to manoeuvre through doorways and round obstacles, and its light weight means it is easy for younger or smaller players to handle.
It is also a good training gun: the pump action teaches you to take deliberate, aimed shots rather than relying on volume of fire.
Who will get the most from it
The M401 is a sensible, low-cost way to try airsoft or add a shotgun to your kit. It is particularly good for back-garden target practice with suitable targets, and for players who want a simple backup gun on CQB days.
Getting the best from it
Spring shotguns are only as consistent as the BBs you feed them, so use good quality seamless BBs and keep the magazine clean. Load the magazine carefully, without forcing BBs in, and check that it is seated firmly before you start shooting.
On the field, play to the M401’s strengths. Use cover, keep your engagements short and close, and take aimed single shots rather than rushing. Carry a spare loaded magazine in a pouch so you can reload quickly, and practise the change so you can do it without looking. A simple two-point sling makes the shotgun easier to carry when you need both hands free.

Care and maintenance
Spring shotguns need very little maintenance. Always store the M401 uncocked so the spring is not left under tension, and remove the magazine and any loose BBs after use.
Use good quality seamless 6mm BBs, and run a cleaning rod and dry patch through the barrel every so often. Rack the pump fully on every shot, and never force the action if it jams; unload the gun and clear the BB with a cleaning rod.
Wipe the outside down after use, dry it if it has been out in the rain, and store it away from heat and direct sunlight. Avoid petroleum-based oils; a little silicone oil on moving parts is all it needs.
Who is it for?
The M401 Breacher is for beginners, casual players and anyone who wants a simple, light, low-cost shotgun or backup gun for close-range play.
Please note: Always wear suitable eye and face protection, and check your site’s rules and minimum engagement distances before play.
