Description
Feeder Boom 2
The Feeder Boom 2 is a simple piece of terminal tackle that holds your feeder away from the mainline. By keeping the feeder off the line, it greatly reduces the chance of the hooklength wrapping around the feeder during the cast, and it lets the feeder sit cleanly on the bottom while your hookbait settles naturally beside the feed.
Feeder fishing is one of the most effective ways to catch bream, roach, barbel, chub, tench and carp on rivers and stillwaters, and tangle-free rigs make a real difference over a long session. A boom is an inexpensive way to make your rig more reliable, especially when you are casting repeatedly to the same spot.
How it works
Thread the boom onto your mainline, add a bead to protect the knot, then tie on a swivel or form a loop for your hooklength. Clip your feeder onto the boom. When you cast, the boom holds the feeder at an angle away from the line so that the hooklength trails cleanly behind. On the bottom, the feeder releases its contents and the hookbait lies nearby, right where the fish are feeding.
Running or fixed
Most anglers fish booms as a running rig, where the line can pass freely through the boom. A taking fish can then move off without feeling the full weight of the feeder, giving you a clear bite on the quivertip. If you want a bolt-rig effect for carp or tench, a stop placed above the boom can make the rig semi-fixed.
Key features
- Holds the feeder away from the mainline
- Reduces tangles on the cast
- Helps the hookbait settle naturally near the feed
- Quick to set up and to change feeders
- Can be fished running or semi-fixed
- Suits open-end, cage and maggot feeders
Compatibility
Works with most open-end, cage, maggot and block-end feeders fitted with a clip or swivel. Suitable for typical coarse mainlines used for feeder fishing. Pair with a hooklength a little lighter than your mainline, so that if you get snagged you lose only the hook rather than the feeder and the whole rig.
Care and maintenance
Check the boom for kinks or cracks before each session and replace any that are damaged, as a bent boom can increase tangles. Rinse off mud and groundbait after use and let it dry before putting it back in your box. Store booms in a compartment box to keep them straight and tidy.
Who is it for?
Coarse anglers who fish the feeder on rivers, canals and stillwaters and want a simple, tangle-resistant set-up, from beginners to regular match and pleasure anglers.
