Description
FN Herstal Minimi M249 MK1 with Sound Control Drum Magazine (Skeleton Stock – AK-249-MK1 – Black)
This is the FN Herstal-licensed Minimi M249 MK1, made by A&K, in black with a skeleton stock and a sound-control drum magazine. It is a full-size, 1:1 scale replica of one of the most recognisable support weapons in the world, and the natural choice for players who want to take on the machine gunner role.
We also carry this licensed MK1 in tan; the black version shares the same build and features. A&K has made M249 replicas for many years, and the MK1 is a metal-bodied, upgrade-friendly support weapon designed to put down sustained fire.
Build and handling
The receiver, barrel assembly, feed cover and bipod are metal, with nylon fibre parts elsewhere, and the listed weight is about 6kg, so it feels every bit the support weapon. The skeleton stock, steel folding bipod and carry handle make it practical to move and set up, and a 1913 Picatinny top rail with adjustable sights lets you add an optic.
Fire modes are safe and full auto, as on the real weapon, and the 14mm negative muzzle thread suits most suppressors and tracer units.
Performance and internals
Inside is a reinforced metal gearbox with 8mm bearings and steel gears, driven by a short-type motor and suited to LiPo and Li-Ion batteries. The hop-up is adjustable to suit your BB weight, so you can keep long bursts flying flat.
The sound-control magazine winds itself when the gun is fired, so you can keep firing without stopping to wind it by hand. Besides the box magazine, the M249 can also take Tokyo Marui-style M4/M16 AEG magazines and Classic Army box magazines.
Getting started
Charge your battery fully and fit it as the manual describes, then load the box or drum magazine and, where it is an electric winding type, fit its own batteries too. Test-fire short bursts at a safe target and set the hop-up gradually until the BBs fly flat at the distances you expect to engage.
Support weapons are used under specific rules at many sites, such as minimum engagement distances or semi-only rules indoors, so check with your site before your first game and have the gun chronographed.

Compatibility
The M249 takes A&K sound-control magazines, Classic Army M249 box magazines and Tokyo Marui-style M4/M16 AEG magazines, but not G&P M249 box magazines. Gearbox parts should be A&K M249 compatible.
The internals are suited to LiPo and Li-Ion batteries; check the battery space and connector before buying a pack. The top rail takes standard Picatinny optics and mounts.
Care and maintenance
Remove the main battery after use and store it safely. Keep the drum magazine’s feed path clean, and use only good quality seamless BBs, which matters more than ever at the volume of fire a support weapon produces.
Clean the inner barrel regularly with a rod and patch, check the bipod, carry handle and stock fixings before each game day, and have gearbox servicing carried out by someone experienced with A&K M249s.
Who is it for?
The M249 MK1 suits dedicated support gunners, milsim players and collectors who want a licensed, metal-bodied Minimi with a self-winding drum magazine.
Please note: A battery and charger are not listed as included. Check your site’s rules for support weapons before play, as many sites have specific rules for LMGs. Always wear suitable eye and face protection.
