Description
Gate ASTER V2 Basic Module [Rear Wired]
The GATE ASTER V2 Basic Module is a drop-in programmable electronic trigger unit for AEGs with a Version 2 gearbox, here in the rear-wired layout for rifles that carry their battery in the stock. It replaces the mechanical trigger contacts with optical sensors and a built-in MOSFET, giving a sharper trigger and a host of fire modes and protection features.
GATE positions ASTER as a more affordable way into its drop-in technology than TITAN, while keeping many of the features players want. The Basic Module is the unit on its own, ready to use with its default settings and programmable through the trigger.
How it works
ASTER replaces the rifle’s mechanical trigger contacts with optical sensors and a built-in MOSFET. Without contacts to burn or wear, the trigger is crisper and more consistent, and the electronics can offer fire modes and protection that a standard trigger cannot. Retailers state that no gearbox modification is needed, the mechanical safety does not have to be removed, and KRYTAC rifles need the bolt catch lever removed or modified.
Functions
GATE lists a wide range of features for ASTER’s Basic firmware. Fire mode sets selectable with the trigger include safe-semi-auto, safe-semi-semi, safe-binary-auto and safe-semi-burst, with support for binary trigger and two-stage (AUG-style) trigger modes. Trigger sensitivity can be adjusted, burst can be continuous or interrupted, and the active brake and pre-tune can be set as needed.
Protection features include reverse polarity protection, battery protection for LiPo or LiFe packs, and a low-voltage alarm. Faults are signalled by vibration, with codes explained in the quick start guide, and settings can be reset through the trigger.
Programming and updates
Basic settings are programmed with the trigger, helped by the unit’s RGB LED. For deeper settings, such as rate of fire control, magazine-size limits or a ball counter, the ASTER can be connected to GATE’s Control Station (GCS) app, which also delivers firmware updates. This needs GATE’s USB-Link or Blu-Link, sold separately.

Compatibility
Designed for Version 2 gearboxes with rear wiring, which suits rifles with the battery in the stock. Choose the front-wired version if your battery sits in the handguard. KRYTAC gearboxes need the bolt catch lever removed or modified. Gearbox shells vary slightly between manufacturers, so check fit with your rifle’s make before ordering. USB-Link or Blu-Link is needed for app programming.
Care and maintenance
Keep the module’s optical sensor area free of grease and debris when the gearbox is open, and keep wiring tidy and clear of the gears. Disconnect the battery when the rifle is not in use, and set the unit’s battery protection to match the type of battery you run.
Check GATE’s Control Station app or website from time to time for firmware updates, and keep the quick start guide handy for fault codes and resets.
Who is it for?
It suits owners of M4-pattern and other V2 rifles with stock-mounted batteries who want an electronic trigger, binary or burst modes and battery protection at a lower cost than TITAN.
Please note: Installation means stripping the gearbox and replacing the trigger assembly. If you are not confident working on AEG gearboxes, ask an experienced airsoft technician to fit it.
