Description

G&G ARP556 AEG with 5″ M-Lock Rail (EGC-ARP-556-ANB-NCM – Grey)

The G&G ARP556 is one of the best-known compact AEGs in airsoft: a short, light M4-style personal defence rifle designed for close-quarters play. This version has a 5 inch M-Lok rail and a grey finish (code EGC-ARP-556-ANB-NCM), which sets it apart from the usual black rifles while keeping a professional, understated look.

G&G Armament is a long-established Taiwanese maker with a reputation for reliable, well-built rifles. The ARP556 packs a full Version 2 gearbox and a MOSFET into a very short package, making it an excellent choice for CQB players, smaller players and anyone who wants a light primary that is easy to carry all day.

Build and handling

The receiver is polymer, which keeps the rifle light and comfortable to hold, and the compact 5 inch M-Lok rail gives just enough room for a torch, laser or short grip without adding bulk. A top rail runs along the receiver for your optic, where a red dot or compact holographic sight is the natural choice for fast, close-range target acquisition.

The short overall length makes the ARP556 easy to manoeuvre through doorways, around corners and in and out of vehicles. It is also a good fit for younger or smaller players who find full-length rifles unwieldy.

Internals and electronics

Inside is a full metal Version 2 gearbox, the most common AEG gearbox design, so upgrade and replacement parts are easy to find. A G&G MOSFET handles the electrical load, protecting the trigger contacts and giving a sharper trigger response, and the rifle is designed around a 7.4V battery with a small Tamiya connector.

The hop-up is adjustable and is reached by opening the breach. The outer barrel carries a 14mm counter-clockwise thread for mock suppressors and tracer units, which is a popular addition on a rifle of this size.

Getting started

Fully charge a suitable battery before first use, then fit it as described in the manual and connect it carefully. Load a magazine, wind it if it is a high-capacity type, and start with the hop-up turned off. Fire a few shots at a safe target and add hop a little at a time until the BBs fly flat without rising at the end of their flight.

Have the rifle chronographed at your site before you play, and keep a note of the hop setting that suits your favourite BB weight so you can return to it quickly.

Key features

  • Compact G&G ARP556 M4-style AEG
  • Grey finish
  • 5 inch M-Lok rail
  • Polymer receiver for low weight

Compatibility

The ARP556 accepts G&G and standard M4-style AEG magazines. The M-Lok rail takes M-Lok rail sections and accessories, the top rail accepts 20mm optics, and the 14mm counter-clockwise thread suits most mock suppressors and tracer units. Check the battery space before buying a pack, as compact rifles have limited room, and choose a small Tamiya connector or use an adaptor.

Care and maintenance

Remove the battery whenever you are not using the rifle, and never leave a LiPo charging unattended. Run a cleaning rod with a clean patch through the inner barrel regularly to keep accuracy consistent, and only use clean, seamless BBs of a decent brand.

After muddy or wet games, wipe the outside down and let the rifle dry naturally before casing it. Check that rails, accessories and the stock are tight, and have any gearbox work carried out by an experienced technician.

Who is it for?

The ARP556 suits CQB and indoor players, smaller and younger players who want a light rifle, and anyone after a compact, reliable G&G in a distinctive grey finish.

Please note: A battery and charger are not listed as included. Always wear suitable eye and face protection when using or testing any airsoft replica.
