The G&G Piranha TR is a modern gas blowback airsoft pistol built around a split-slide design, with a fixed fore-slide that carries an optics rail. This is the all-black version (GAS-PRN-TOR-BBB-UCM). It is fast, light and ready for a red dot straight out of the box, making it one of the more distinctive sidearms on the market.
G&G Armament is a long-established Taiwanese manufacturer with a strong reputation for well-engineered replicas, and the Piranha range is its own original pistol design rather than a copy of a real firearm. It suits players who want a practical, optic-ready sidearm for CQB, speed shooting or as a backup to their primary.
Design and build
The Piranha TR uses a split slide: the rear section cycles with each shot while the fore-slide stays fixed. That fixed front section carries a Picatinny optics rail at 12 o’clock, so a red dot stays put shot after shot, and a groove down the centre of the rail keeps the iron sights usable through it. There is also a Picatinny rail on the frame for a torch or laser.
The slide and barrel are metal, while the frame is a high-density polymer with ergonomic shaping, keeping the weight to around 468g. The all-black finish gives the pistol a clean, practical look that suits any loadout.
Performance
The split slide gives a very fast cycling rate, so the pistol is ready for its next shot almost instantly. G&G lists a Whirl Cylinder Valve and an enlarged gas valve designed for efficient gas use, and the barrel is fixed to the frame for consistent shot placement.
The hop-up is G&G’s GTP system, adjusted from the muzzle using the supplied dummy-cartridge tool, so you can tune it without stripping the pistol. Retailers describe 120 settings in small steps, which allows very fine adjustment for different BB weights.
Controls and handling
The controls are fully ambidextrous, and the magazine release is reversible, so the Piranha suits left and right-handed shooters equally. The two-stage trigger has a built-in trigger safety, and the white-dot sights are quick to pick up in a hurry.
Getting started
Fill the magazine with the correct gas, holding the can upright and filling in short bursts. Let the magazine settle for a minute, load your BBs and fire a few test shots with the hop-up off, then add hop gradually until the BBs fly flat.
Get the replica chronographed at your site before play. In cold weather, keep spare magazines warm in an inside pocket for the most consistent performance.

Compatibility
Use G&G Piranha gas magazines; spares are worth having for skirmish days. Run it on green gas as listed, using good quality seamless 6mm BBs. The fore-slide rail accepts compact red dots designed for Picatinny mounting, and the frame rail takes a pistol torch or laser; check the fit of holsters, as a rail-mounted optic or light may need a specific holster.
Care and maintenance
Put a drop of silicone oil on the magazine’s fill valve and seals every few fills, and store magazines with a little gas in them so the seals stay tight. Do not overfill, and let magazines warm up to room temperature in cold weather rather than heating them.
Wipe the moving parts and the outer barrel with a thin film of silicone oil now and then, clean the inner barrel with a rod and patch, and use good quality seamless BBs. Never use petroleum-based oils on the seals.
