Description
G&G Reinforced Sector Gear for L85
This is a reinforced sector gear for the G&G L85 AEG. The L85 is the British Army’s service rifle in its distinctive bullpup layout, and G&G is among the manufacturers that have produced an airsoft version. Bullpup AEGs place the gearbox behind the trigger, in the stock, and their gearbox parts are not always interchangeable with standard rifle gearboxes.
The sector gear is the gear that pulls the piston back on each shot and also operates the cut-off lever that controls semi-automatic fire. It takes heavy loads with every shot, so a reinforced replacement is a sensible choice when the original has worn or broken.
What the sector gear does
In an AEG gearbox, the motor drives the bevel gear, which drives the spur gear, which in turn drives the sector gear. The sector gear’s teeth engage the piston rack and draw it back against the spring, then release it to fire. Worn or stripped sector gear teeth can cause the gun to lock up, fire weakly or make grinding noises.
Fitting
Fitting gearbox parts means removing and opening the gearbox, so remove the battery and magazine first and take photos at every stage. Release spring tension carefully when opening the shell, keep small parts such as the anti-reversal latch and trigger springs under control, and check shimming as you rebuild. If you have not worked on a gearbox before, it is worth having a technician fit the part.
Key features
- Reinforced sector gear for the G&G L85
- Replaces a worn or broken original
- Built to handle regular use
- Restores reliable piston cycling
- Useful spare for L85 owners
Compatibility
Listed for the G&G L85. Sector gears must match the gear set and gearbox they are used in, so check that your replica is a G&G L85 and compare the part with your existing gear before ordering. It is best replaced alongside a check of the other gears and the piston.
Care and maintenance
Use good-quality seamless BBs and a battery suited to your replica. Fire a shot on semi-auto before storing so that the spring is not left compressed. Have the gearbox inspected, cleaned and re-greased from time to time, and stop using the gun if you notice grinding, clicking or a sudden change in rate of fire.
Who is it for?
For G&G L85 owners repairing a gearbox with a worn or broken sector gear.
Please note: Fitting requires opening the gearbox. Check compatibility with your exact replica before ordering.
