Description
Glow in the Dark Soft Shrimp
This soft plastic shrimp imitates one of the most natural food items in the sea. Shrimps and prawns are eaten by almost every predatory fish around our coast, from bass and wrasse to flatfish and pollack, so a realistic shrimp lure is a very versatile thing to have in your box.
The glow in the dark finish is what makes this lure especially useful. After being charged by daylight or a torch, it gives off a soft glow that helps it stand out in coloured water after a blow, in deeper water where light is low, and at dusk and through the night, when many sea species feed most confidently.
How to fish it
The simplest way to fish a soft shrimp is on a jig head, cast out, allowed to sink and then worked back with short lifts and pauses so it darts and drops like a fleeing shrimp. You can also fish it on a weighted or weedless hook around rocks and weed, where fish such as wrasse and bass hunt. For a different approach, add it to a bait rig or flapper as an extra attractor alongside natural bait.
Charging the glow
To get the most from the glow, hold the lure in bright light or shine a torch on it for a few seconds before casting. The glow fades gradually, so recharge it every few casts when fishing at night. Many anglers use a small UV torch for a quick, strong charge.
Key features
- Soft plastic shrimp imitation
- Glow in the dark finish for low light and murky water
- Natural profile that predators recognise
- Rig on a jig head, weighted hook or weedless hook
- Can be added to bait rigs as an attractor
- Suits a wide range of sea species
Compatibility
Use with a jig head or hook of a size that suits the lure’s body, threading the hook through so the point comes out cleanly along the back. Works with light lure rods and spinning outfits from the shore or boat, and with standard sea bait rigs. Use a fluorocarbon or mono leader for a natural presentation.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the lure in fresh water after use and let it dry before putting it away. Store soft plastics in their packet or in a lure box compartment away from hard plastic lures of other colours, as some soft plastics can react or bleed colour. Keep them out of direct sunlight and heat to stop them softening or distorting.
Who is it for?
Sea anglers who lure fish or bait fish from the shore, piers or boats, especially those who fish at dusk, at night or in coloured water.
