Description
LayLax Prometheus Hard Piston TM NGRS Ver.2
The Prometheus Hard Piston is an upgrade piston for Tokyo Marui Next Generation Recoil Shock (NGRS) AEGs with the Version 2 gearbox. The piston is the part the gears pull back on every shot, so it takes a lot of strain, and a worn or stripped piston is one of the most common reasons for an AEG to stop firing.
A stronger piston is a sensible upgrade if you are fitting a stiffer spring or simply want a more durable gearbox. It suits players who are building or refreshing an NGRS M4 or HK416-style rifle and want a quality part.
Design
A retailer listing of the LayLax Next Gen hard piston for the Version 2 gearbox describes a strong polymer body with a mix of tooth types. The rear teeth are polymer, so they can flex slightly as the gear first engages, while the front teeth are reinforced with metal so they hold firm as the spring drives the piston forward. The aim is to absorb the shock of engagement while keeping the most stressed teeth strong.
About LayLax and Prometheus
LayLax is a long-established Japanese maker of airsoft parts and accessories. Its family of brands covers most areas of the hobby, with Prometheus for internal upgrades, Nine Ball for gas pistol parts, First Factory for external and replacement parts, Giga Tec for electrical items and Satellite for loaders and workshop accessories.
The NGRS gearbox
Tokyo Marui’s Next Generation Recoil Shock (NGRS) AEGs use their own gearbox and many parts of their own, with a recoil system built into the gearbox. Parts made for standard AEG gearboxes do not necessarily fit an NGRS gearbox, and the reverse is also true, so it is important to buy parts that are made for the NGRS system.
Key features
- Prometheus hard piston
- For Tokyo Marui NGRS Version 2 gearboxes
- Polymer body (per retailer listing)
- Metal-reinforced front teeth (per retailer listing)
- Polymer rear teeth that can flex slightly on engagement (per retailer listing)
- Good partner for a spring upgrade
Compatibility
Listed for Tokyo Marui NGRS Version 2 gearboxes. It is not intended for standard Version 2 AEG gearboxes. The piston head and O-ring set-up affect air seal, so check your existing piston head before fitting.
Spare parts are often specific to one manufacturer and gearbox type, so please check your replica’s model before ordering, and contact us if you are unsure.
Care and maintenance
After fitting, test the replica with no BBs loaded and the battery or gas connected carefully, listening and feeling for anything unusual before you fire a full magazine. Have the replica chronographed again after any internal change, as part changes can alter its power.
Check the piston’s teeth for wear whenever you have the gearbox open, and keep a light film of suitable grease on the gears rather than on the piston teeth.
Who is it for?
This piston is for owners of Tokyo Marui NGRS rifles who want a stronger, more durable piston, particularly when fitting a stiffer spring.
Please note: Fitting requires opening the gearbox, and some parts may need fitting, so professional installation is recommended. The replica is not included.
