The Desert Eagle L6 .50AE is an officially licensed gas blowback replica of Magnum Research’s famous big-bore pistol, made by WE and sold under licence through Cybergun. This is the black version, with Cybergun code 950509. Few handguns are as instantly recognisable as the Desert Eagle, and this replica captures its size, weight and presence.
WE is one of the best-known makers of gas blowback pistols, and its Desert Eagle is a favourite with collectors and players who want a sidearm with real character. The L6 styling adds a ported barrel and a full-length top rail to the classic shape, giving it a modern, purposeful look. It is as much fun for plinking at home as it is a statement piece on the skirmish field.
Build and materials
Our listing of the blue L6 and a retailer listing of the WE-made L6 both describe a full metal construction, which gives the pistol real weight in the hand and a solid, rattle-free feel. The retailer lists a length of around 280mm and a weight of about 1.36kg, so this is a large pistol that settles well between shots.
The ported front end acts as a styled compensator, and Picatinny rails are listed on the top and underneath, so you can fit a red dot sight or a pistol light. Licensed Magnum Research markings make it a strong choice for collectors who care about authenticity.
Performance and gas system
In a gas blowback pistol the magazine holds both the BBs and the gas. Pulling the trigger releases a burst of gas: part of it sends the BB through the hop-up and down the barrel, and the rest drives the slide back, cocking the hammer and loading the next BB as the slide returns. On a pistol with a slide as large as the Desert Eagle’s, the result is a heavy, satisfying kick.
The pistol fires in semi-automatic only and the hop-up is adjustable, so you can match it to your BB weight; on our blue L6 listing the dial is turned with a hex key with the slide locked back. The magazine holds 27 BBs and is filled with green gas or a similar airsoft-specific gas. As with all gas pistols, performance is best in mild weather, so keep spare magazines warm in an inside pocket on cold days.
Handling
The Desert Eagle is a big pistol, best suited to players with medium to large hands or anyone who simply enjoys the experience of shooting a large-frame handgun. Its weight helps settle the sights between shots, and the long sight radius and top rail make it a capable target pistol for practice at home or at the range. Choose a holster made for the Desert Eagle, as standard pistol holsters will not fit its size.

Compatibility
The pistol takes Cybergun Desert Eagle gas magazines and WE Desert Eagle gas magazines made for this model. Use airsoft-specific gas only: never lighter fluid or butane from a lighter refill, which can damage the seals. The top rail takes standard 20mm rail-mount sights. Use good quality seamless 6mm BBs.
Care and maintenance
Put a drop of silicone oil on the magazine fill valve and the gas route seal now and then to keep the seals supple. Do not overfill the magazine; a two- to three-second fill is usually enough. Store the magazine with a small amount of gas in it, away from heat, and wipe the metal parts down after wet or muddy games. A light film of silicone oil on the slide rails keeps the action smooth.
