Maxtact – Derringer (Full Metal – Black)
The Maxtact Derringer is a compact, double-barrelled gas airsoft pistol with full metal construction and a polymer grip, finished in black. Modelled on the classic pocket derringer, it is one of the smallest replicas you can carry, and it makes a characterful last-ditch sidearm or a fun collector’s piece.
Derringers have a long history as tiny pocket pistols, and in airsoft they have a special appeal for role-play, western and character games, as well as for players who enjoy a challenge. With only a couple of shots before reloading, every shot counts.
Build and design
The Derringer is full metal, with a polymer grip, which gives it a reassuring weight and solid feel despite its very small size. Overall dimensions are about 5 by 3.25 inches, as listed, so it fits easily in a pocket, a small pouch or a compact holster.

How it works
The Derringer is gas operated and fires single shots. Load it as described in the manual, fire, and reload when the barrels are empty. Its very short barrels mean it is a close-range replica, ideal for surprise eliminations at short distance and for character play rather than long-range shooting.
Because it is so compact, it is easy to keep on you as a backup when everything else has run dry, which can make for memorable moments in a game.
Using it in a game
A derringer is best used up close: wait for an opponent to come within a few metres, then make your shots count. Keep it in an easily reached pocket or pouch so you can draw it quickly when your main replica runs dry, and practise loading it at home so you can top it up quickly between games.
Some players carry one purely for fun, setting themselves the challenge of a derringer-only game. However you use it, it is guaranteed to start conversations in the safe zone.
Getting started
Read the Maxtact manual first so you understand how to fill, load and fire the Derringer safely. Use a suitable airsoft gas as the manual specifies, fill in short bursts, and try a few shots at a safe backstop to get used to its close-range performance.
Ask your site whether it accepts derringer-type sidearms and have it chronographed before play.

Compatibility
Use the gas recommended in the Maxtact manual and good quality 6mm BBs. Because of its unusual size and shape, standard pistol holsters will not fit; choose a small pouch or a holster made for compact pistols.
Care and maintenance
Put a drop of silicone oil on the fill valve every few fills and store the pistol with a little gas in it so the seals stay supple. Do not overfill, and let it warm up naturally in cold weather.
Wipe the metal with a light film of silicone oil to keep it looking good, use clean BBs, and store it dry and out of reach of children.
