Description
Well PRO XM5/XM7 MCX Spear Gas Blowback Rifle (Single Steel Bolt, MWS Compatible, WG68-10)
This is Well PRO’s XM5/XM7 MCX Spear gas blowback rifle, model WG68-10, listed with a single steel bolt and as MWS compatible. The XM5 and XM7 names come from the US Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapon programme, which chose a SIG Sauer MCX Spear based rifle as its new service rifle, and this replica brings that modern, purposeful look to airsoft as a gas rifle.
Well PRO is the upper range of Well’s airsoft line, and the WG68 has been designed to give the realism of a gas blowback rifle: a moving bolt, recoil and a satisfying sound with every shot. It suits players who want a current-issue style rifle for milsim and skirmish, and who enjoy the extra involvement of running a gas replica.
Build and design
A retailer listing for the closely related WG68-10C describes a full metal rifle with CNC-machined aluminium receiver and handguard parts and a single-piece steel bolt carrier group, which adds weight and resistance to wear. The same listing describes an M-LOK handguard for grips, lights and lasers, a side-folding adjustable stock on a rear 1913 Picatinny interface, and a 14mm CCW threaded barrel that accepts suppressors, tracer units and flash hiders.
The controls follow the modern ambidextrous pattern of the real rifle. Per that listing, the fire selector, magazine release and bolt catch can be used from either side, and there is both a rear T-style charging handle and a non-reciprocating side charging handle, so you can charge the rifle in whichever way feels most natural.
How it works
In a gas blowback rifle the magazine holds both the BBs and the gas. When you pull the trigger, a valve in the magazine releases a measured burst of gas: part of it sends the BB down the barrel, and the rest drives the bolt carrier back, cocking the hammer and picking up the next BB as it returns. The result is a working bolt, felt recoil and a realistic manual of arms that an electric replica cannot match.
Magazines and MWS compatibility
The same retailer listing describes a 30-round gas magazine styled after a .308-pattern polymer magazine, with last-round bolt hold-open, so the bolt locks back when the magazine runs dry and tells you it is time to reload. We also stock spare WG68 magazines in both polymer and metal casings.
MWS refers to the Tokyo Marui M4 gas blowback system, which has become a common reference point for gas rifles. A rifle built around that layout generally opens up a wide range of MWS-pattern magazines, internal parts and upgrades. Fit between brands is not always perfect, so it is still worth checking individual parts against your rifle before you order them.
Handling
The folding stock is a real advantage for transport and for tight spaces, and the M-LOK handguard keeps the front end slim while letting you add accessories exactly where you want them. Set the stock length to suit your kit, then fit an optic to the top rail and you have a capable, modern rifle for most game types.

Compatibility
Use good quality seamless 6mm BBs and the gas recommended in the manual. Gas blowback rifles need gas magazines made for their own system, so AEG magazines will not fit. Optics, lights, lasers and grips can be fitted to the rails or handguard where there is space; check the product images for the exact layout.
Spare Well PRO WG68 gas magazines are made for this rifle. Muzzle devices must match the 14mm CCW thread, so check the thread of any silencer or tracer before you buy it.
Care and maintenance
Keep the bolt carrier and the inside of the receiver lightly lubricated with a suitable silicone-based gas blowback lubricant, and clean the inner barrel now and then with a rod and dry patch. Avoid getting oil on the hop-up rubber, and use only good quality seamless BBs.
Put a drop of silicone oil on each magazine’s fill valve and seals every few fills, store magazines with a little gas in them so the seals stay tight, and never overfill. Store the rifle unloaded with the magazines removed, somewhere dry and away from direct heat or sunlight.
