Description

Saigo Defense Kenji AEG (Long – Tan)

The Saigo Defense Kenji (Long) is the carbine-length version of Saigo Defense’s M4-style electric rifle, finished in tan. It combines a light polymer body with a metal V2 gearbox, a full-length KeyMod handguard and a metal suppressor, creating a modern rifle with the reach and steadiness that suit woodland and mixed sites.

The Kenji is offered as a longer carbine and as a short PDW; this long version gives you a longer sight radius and a more stable hold, while the rotary hop-up with a 65-degree hop rubber is designed to make good use of heavier BBs. It is a strong choice for players stepping up from an entry-level rifle who want useful features at a sensible price.

Build and materials

The receiver, stock and pistol grip are polymer, which keeps the weight manageable, while the outer barrel, suppressor, buffer tube and the internal components and controls are metal. The full-length KeyMod handguard carries a full-length 20mm top rail, and extra rail sections are provided so you can fit a grip, torch or laser where you want them.

Flip-up iron sights let you aim straight out of the box and fold away if you add a red dot or scope. The textured pistol grip and six-position stock let you set the rifle up to suit your build and the kit you are wearing. The tan finish suits tan, coyote and multi-terrain loadouts.

Performance and internals

Inside is a metal Version 2 gearbox, rear wired, with steel gears, an aluminium vented cylinder and a metal piston, driven by a 16,000 RPM motor. The rate of fire is described as around 18 rounds per second. A quick-change spring system lets a technician change the spring without stripping the gearbox, which is handy if you need to tune the rifle to a site’s limits.

The rotary hop-up unit is fitted with a 65-degree hop rubber, a harder compound intended to handle heavier BBs. The rifle fires on safe, semi and full auto, and the metal suppressor sits on a 14mm counter-clockwise threaded outer barrel, so it can be swapped for a different suppressor or a tracer unit.

Getting started

Before your first game, charge your battery fully on a suitable charger, fit it and check the rifle fires on safe, semi and auto as expected. Set the hop-up from zero, adding a little at a time until the BB holds a straight, flat line, and then check where it lands at the distances you usually shoot.

Your site will chronograph the rifle before play. Spend a few minutes learning how to change the battery and clear a jam so you are not doing it for the first time mid-game.

Compatibility

The Kenji takes Tokyo Marui and compatible M4 AEG magazines, so spares are easy to find in low, mid and high-capacity styles. The battery sits in the buffer tube: an 11.1V LiPo in a buffer tube size is recommended, and the rifle uses a mini Tamiya connector, so check both before buying a pack.

The KeyMod handguard accepts KeyMod accessories and rail sections, the top rail takes standard 20mm optics and mounts, and the 14mm counter-clockwise thread suits most airsoft suppressors and tracer units. Version 2 gearbox parts are widely available if you decide to upgrade later.

Care and maintenance

Remove the battery whenever you are not using the rifle, and never leave a LiPo charging unattended. Run a cleaning rod with a clean patch through the inner barrel regularly to keep accuracy consistent, and only use clean, seamless BBs of a decent brand.

After muddy or wet games, wipe the outside down and let the rifle dry naturally before casing it. Check that rails, accessories and the stock are tight, and have any gearbox work carried out by an experienced technician.

Who is it for?

The Kenji long suits players who want an affordable M4-style rifle with sensible features such as a metal gearbox, KeyMod rail and rotary hop-up, and especially woodland and mixed-site players who appreciate a longer, steadier carbine.

Please note: This listing does not name a battery or charger as included, so please check with us before ordering. Always wear suitable eye and face protection, and have the rifle chronographed at your site before play.
