SHS Super Shooter CNC Steel O-Type Pinion Gear (JJ0039)
This is an SHS (Super Shooter) CNC-machined steel pinion gear, O-type, code JJ0039. The pinion is the small gear pressed onto the end of the motor shaft, and it drives the bevel gear inside the gearbox, so it carries the full load of the motor on every shot.
“O-type” refers to the shape of the motor shaft. A retailer listing for the SHS CNC O-type pinion describes it as being for motors with a round O-axle, made from hardened steel on CNC machines and finished with a chemical blackening. A worn or chipped pinion is a common cause of grinding noises and gear damage, so replacing it with a solid steel part is a sensible repair or upgrade.
Why the pinion matters
Because it is the first gear in the chain and the smallest, the pinion’s teeth see more wear than any other gear in an AEG. If they wear or chip, the motor can strip the bevel gear or spin without cycling the gearbox. A precisely machined steel pinion meshes more cleanly with the bevel gear, which helps reduce noise and wear on both parts.
A pinion must also be matched to the bevel gear: its tooth form needs to suit the bevel’s teeth, and its position on the shaft affects how deep the two gears mesh.
Fitting
Pinions are a press fit on the motor shaft. Use a proper pinion press or puller to remove the old one and fit the new one, as hammering can damage the motor bearings. Fit it to the same height as the original unless your build needs a different setting, then adjust the motor height screw so the pinion and bevel mesh smoothly without whining or grinding.
If you are not confident working inside a gearbox, have the part fitted by an experienced airsoft technician. Opening a gearbox means dealing with a compressed spring and a lot of small parts, and incorrect shimming or reassembly is the most common cause of noise and early wear.

Compatibility
For AEG motors with a round O-type shaft; it will not fit a D-shaped (D-type) shaft. Check that the pinion’s tooth form matches your bevel gear, as straight-cut and helical gears are not interchangeable. If in doubt, compare your current pinion with the product images or bring it to us.
Care and maintenance
Keep the pinion and bevel gear lightly greased with a gear grease suited to AEGs, and avoid over-greasing, which collects grit. If your motor starts to whine or grind, check the motor height and pinion condition before damage spreads to the other gears.
Store AEGs with the battery disconnected and keep the motor grip clean and dry.
