This is a SLONG AIRSOFT shim set for airsoft gearbox work, made up of 30 metal spacer shims in 0.10mm and 0.15mm thicknesses, as named. It gives you a supply of precision spacers so you can set up the gears in an AEG gearbox properly when building, upgrading or servicing it.

What shims do
Shims are thin washers that sit between the gears and the bushings or bearings in an AEG gearbox. Shimming sets how much each gear can move up and down on its axle and how deeply the gears mesh with each other. Good shimming makes a gearbox quieter, smoother and more efficient, reduces wear on the teeth, and is one of the most important steps in any gearbox build or upgrade.
Using them
The usual approach is to shim each gear so it spins freely with only a tiny amount of vertical play, then check how the gears mesh, adjusting from the bevel gear upwards. Many techs use the sound of the gearbox and how the gears turn by hand as a guide. Work on a clean surface, keep the shims sorted by thickness, and take photos as you strip the gearbox so you know where everything went.
If you are new to gearbox work, it is worth practising on an older gearbox first, or asking an experienced tech to show you the basics. Over-tight shimming makes the motor work harder and can cause heat and wear, while too much play lets gears wobble and chip teeth.

Compatibility
Check that the shim inner diameter matches the axles and bushings or bearings in your gearbox, and that the outer diameter suits the gears and gearbox shell. Most standard Version 2 and Version 3 gearboxes use common sizes, but some brands and proprietary gearboxes differ. Please check the product photos or contact us if you are unsure.
Care and maintenance
Store shims in a sealed bag or small parts box so they do not get lost or contaminated with grit. Handle them with clean hands or tweezers, and wipe off any dirt before fitting. When you rebuild a gearbox, use a light, suitable grease on the gears rather than heavy grease around the shims, and check the shimming again after any major upgrade.
