Description

SRC MP40 AEG Blowback (Bakelite-style – GE-0640TM III)

The SRC MP40 is an electric replica of the famous German sub-machine gun of the Second World War, built by SRC as part of its third-generation SR40 line. This version, coded GE-0640TM III, combines a steel body with a Bakelite-style polymer grip frame and stock, and adds electric blowback, so the bolt moves with each shot for a touch of extra realism.

The MP40 is one of the most recognisable firearms of the era, and an electric version is a practical choice for WWII re-enactment games, themed weekends and collectors who want a replica they can actually skirmish with. Running on a battery rather than gas, it keeps performing on cold mornings when gas guns start to struggle, and running costs stay low.

Build and materials

A European retailer lists the SR40 Gen III with a steel body, with the furniture made from plastic styled to look like the original Bakelite rather than real Bakelite, which is what the ‘Bakelight’ in our listing refers to. The same listing gives a length of about 610mm with the stock folded and 825mm with it extended, and a weight of roughly 2.9kg, so it has a reassuring heft without being tiring to carry.

The under-folding metal stock follows the original design: folded, it makes the gun very compact for transport and close-quarter play; extended, it gives a steady shoulder for aimed shots. There is no modern accessory rail, which keeps the period look intact.

Performance and internals

Inside, the retailer describes a metal gearbox with metal gears, a short motor and a MOSFET, feeding a bronze inner barrel of about 260mm through an adjustable hop-up with a metal chamber. The electric blowback adds movement and sound at the rear of the gun, which many period players enjoy.

The supplied magazine is listed as a 90-round low-capacity type with a compression spring, so there is no winding and it is quiet in use, which suits historical games where realistic ammunition counts are encouraged. Owners on a WWII airsoft forum note that the gearbox is a design specific to this model, so it is worth having any upgrades handled by someone who knows it.

Handling

The long, slim magazine doubles as a forward hand hold, just as on the original, and the compact layout makes it quick to bring up when clearing buildings or trenches. With the stock folded it is short enough to sling across the chest or carry in a vehicle, and the familiar silhouette instantly marks you out in a period impression.

Getting started

Charge your battery on a proper charger and fit it following the manual. Load a magazine and test-fire at a safe backstop, starting with the hop-up off and bringing it up gradually until shots fly flat. A few minutes of zeroing at the range makes a big difference to your confidence on the field.

Practise magazine changes and battery swaps at home, and get the rifle chronographed at the site before your first game.

Key features

  • Electric replica of the MP40 sub-machine gun
  • SRC third-generation SR40 line (GE-0640TM III)
  • Steel body with Bakelite-style polymer furniture
  • Under-folding metal stock
  • Electric blowback action
  • Adjustable hop-up with metal chamber
  • Low-capacity magazine with no winding needed
  • No gas required, so it works well in cold weather
  • Period-correct look with no modern rails

Compatibility

Use magazines made for the SRC MP40/SR40 AEG; a retailer lists SRC magazines of other capacities as compatible with the Gen III, but MP40 magazines differ between makers, so please check before ordering spares. The CO2 SR40 uses different magazines that will not work in this electric version.

Battery space is limited in an MP40, so check the battery size and connector against the manual, or ask us, before buying one. Good quality 0.20g or 0.25g BBs suit this type of gun.

Care and maintenance

Remove the battery whenever you are not using the rifle, and never leave a LiPo charging unattended. Run a cleaning rod with a clean patch through the inner barrel regularly to keep accuracy consistent, and only use clean, seamless BBs of a decent brand.

After muddy or wet games, wipe the outside down and let the rifle dry naturally before casing it. Check that rails, accessories and the stock are tight, and have any gearbox work carried out by an experienced technician.

Who is it for?

The SRC MP40 AEG suits WWII re-enactors, themed-game players and collectors who want an authentic-looking MP40 that runs on a battery, works in all weathers and is practical to use in real games.

Please note: Battery and charger are not named as included in this listing, so please check with us before ordering. Always wear suitable eye and face protection when using or testing any airsoft replica, and have it chronographed at your site before play.
