Description

S&T M4 Long Gas Blowback Rifle (RIS Long – ST-GBB-09-BK)

This S&T M4 RIS Long is a gas blowback (GBB) M4-style rifle, S&T code ST-GBB-09-BK. A gas blowback rifle uses gas stored in the magazine both to fire each BB and to drive the bolt carrier back and forth, so every shot produces a genuine recoil kick and the bolt locks back when the magazine runs empty, just like the real rifle.

S&T offers a wide range of replicas at competitive prices, and its M4 gas blowback rifles give players an affordable route into GBB, which is prized for its realism and the training value of handling a rifle that works like the real thing. This RIS Long version has a long railed (RIS) handguard, giving plenty of space for a foregrip, light, laser and other accessories and a steady forward hold.

How gas blowback works

When you pull the trigger, gas from the magazine pushes the BB down the barrel and then drives the bolt carrier to the rear, cocking the rifle for the next shot. You feel each shot as a sharp recoil impulse and hear the action cycle, which makes games and drills far more immersive than with an electric rifle.

When the magazine is empty, the bolt locks back. Change the magazine and release the bolt to carry on, exactly as on the real rifle, which makes this an excellent tool for practising realistic manipulation.

Handling

The rifle follows the familiar M4 layout, with the usual safety selector, magazine release, charging handle and bolt catch, so it handles just like an M4. Its gas system means there is no battery to fit, so the stock and handguard are free of wires.

Gas performance is affected by temperature: on cold days pressure drops, so keep spare magazines warm in an inside pocket and expect slightly lower performance in winter.

Getting started

Fill the magazine with the correct gas, holding the can upright and filling in short bursts. Let the magazine settle for a minute, load your BBs and fire a few test shots with the hop-up off, then add hop gradually until the BBs fly flat.

Get the replica chronographed at your site before play. In cold weather, keep spare magazines warm in an inside pocket for the most consistent performance.

Key features

  • M4-style gas blowback rifle from S&T
  • Bolt carrier cycles with every shot for real felt recoil
  • Bolt locks back on an empty magazine
  • Long RIS handguard for accessories
  • Familiar M4 controls
  • No battery needed

Compatibility

Gas blowback rifles use gas magazines made for their own system; they are not interchangeable with AEG magazines, and GBB magazines from other makers may not fit or feed correctly, so please check with us before buying spares. Use the gas recommended in the manual and good quality seamless 6mm BBs. Rails accept standard 20mm accessories.

Care and maintenance

Put a drop of silicone oil on the magazine’s fill valve and seals every few fills, and store magazines with a little gas in them so the seals stay tight. Do not overfill, and let magazines warm up to room temperature in cold weather rather than heating them.

Wipe the moving parts and the outer barrel with a thin film of silicone oil now and then, clean the inner barrel with a rod and patch, and use good quality seamless BBs. Never use petroleum-based oils on the seals.

Who is it for?

This rifle suits players who want an M4 that handles like the real thing, with real recoil and a working bolt, and anyone stepping up from an electric rifle to gas for more immersion.

Please note: Gas and BBs are not included. Gas rifles lose some performance in cold weather. Always wear suitable eye and face protection, and check your site’s rules for gas rifles before play.
