Description
Stiffi 170 Beachcasting Reel
The Stiffi 170 is a popular beachcasting fixed spool reel, built to handle the demands of shore fishing. It comes pre-loaded with 350 yards of 15lb mono, so it is ready to fish straight out of the box, which makes it a great choice for anyone getting into beach and pier fishing.
Simple, robust and well priced, the Stiffi 170 is just as useful as a second reel or a holiday set-up as it is for beginners.
Features
An anti-twist line roller helps reduce line twist as you retrieve, which means fewer tangles and better casting. The ball bearing gives a smooth retrieve, and the front drag is easy to reach and adjust while you are playing a fish. The handle is ambidextrous, so the reel can be set up for left or right-handed use.
On the beach
Because it comes pre-loaded, you only need to add a shock leader of suitable strength for your casting weight before you start fishing. 15lb mono is a good general-purpose line for beach and pier fishing for species such as whiting, dabs, codling and bass. Set the drag so that it gives line under a firm pull, which protects the line when a good fish runs close in.

Compatibility
Fits standard beachcaster and boat rod reel seats. Add a shock leader matched to your lead weight before casting; this is essential for safe beach casting. The 15lb mono suits general shore fishing, and you can re-spool with a different line as your fishing develops.
Care and maintenance
Salt water is hard on reels, so rinse the Stiffi gently in fresh water after every sea session and let it dry before storing. Back off the drag when not in use. A drop of reel oil on the line roller and handle now and then keeps it turning freely. Check the line for wear and nicks regularly, and replace it when it looks tired.
Who is it for?
Beginners and experienced sea anglers alike who want a dependable, ready-to-fish beachcasting reel.
