Description

WE M&P Bird GBBP (Blue Lower Body)

The WE M&P Bird is a gas blowback pistol from WE’s Bird family, inspired by the M&P, the modern polymer-framed striker pistol widely used by law enforcement and sold to civilian shooters around the world. This version has a blue lower body, giving a striking two-tone look that stands out from the usual all-black sidearms.

WE (WE-Tech) is a Taiwanese manufacturer and one of the best-known names in gas blowback pistols. Its replicas are widely used as sidearms on UK skirmish sites, with good spare parts support and a reputation for strong, lively blowback. The Bird series combines a metal slide with a polymer frame, which keeps the weight manageable while giving the crisp, positive cycle that WE pistols are known for.

Build and design

The slide is metal, giving a crisp, positive cycle and a quality feel, and the polymer lower is finished in blue. The grip is shaped in the modern M&P style, with an ergonomic profile that points naturally and stays secure in the hand. A lower accessory rail moulded into the frame takes a pistol light or laser, and the striker-style design gives a clean, snag-free profile with no exposed hammer.

The blue finish is the UK coloured version of this model. Many players and collectors like the bright, distinctive look, and it makes the pistol easy to spot if you put it down on the range or in the safe zone.

How it works

The M&P Bird is a gas blowback pistol. Gas is filled into the magazine, and each pull of the trigger releases a measured amount to fire the BB and drive the slide back. The moving slide gives a real kick in the hand, cocks the action for the next shot and, on most models, locks back when the magazine runs dry, so you build the same reloading habits you would with a real pistol.

Like every gas pistol, its performance depends on temperature. Gas pistols cycle crisply on warm days; in the cold, pressure drops, so keep a spare magazine in an inside pocket and pace your shots during rapid strings so the magazine has a moment to recover. Good quality BBs of a consistent weight give the flattest, most repeatable flight.

Using it in a game

A sidearm comes into its own when your primary runs dry, jams or simply becomes awkward in tight spaces such as corridors, stairwells and vehicles. The M&P Bird is quick to bring into action from a holster, and the blowback and slide lock make it obvious when you need to reload. Carry one or two spare magazines in a pouch, kept warm on cold days, and you have a dependable back-up for the whole day.

It is equally useful away from skirmish days. Shooting paper targets or steel plates at home is an excellent way to practise drawing, sight alignment and reloading, and a gas blowback pistol makes that practice far more engaging than a fixed-slide replica.

Compatibility

Use WE magazines made for the Bird series; please ask us before buying spares to make sure they fit this model. Fires standard 6mm BBs; 0.20g to 0.25g suit most gas pistols. The lower rail takes standard pistol lights and lasers.

Holsters for M&P-style pistols are the best starting point, but WE’s Bird series is not an exact copy of any one pistol, so please check fit before relying on a moulded holster. Use only gas made for airsoft guns; never use lighter fluid or butane.

Care and maintenance

Gas blowback pistols reward a little regular attention. After a day’s play, wipe the slide, frame and magazine down with a lightly oiled cloth to remove dust and moisture, and run a cleaning rod with a clean patch through the inner barrel every so often to keep accuracy consistent. Use only gas made for airsoft, and put a drop of silicone oil on the magazine fill valve and outlet seal from time to time to keep them supple and leak-free.

Don’t overfill the magazine; a short, steady fill is enough, and you will hear and see when it is full. For storage, leave a small amount of gas in the magazine to keep the seals pressurised, store the pistol and magazines at room temperature, and avoid leaving them in a cold car or direct sun. In cold weather keep spare magazines warm in a pocket, as gas pressure drops noticeably as temperature falls. Use good quality seamless 6mm BBs, as cheap or misshapen BBs are the most common cause of jams and hop-up wear.

Who is it for?

The M&P Bird suits players who like the modern M&P style and want a lively, well-built gas blowback sidearm with a colourful finish that stands out from the crowd.

Please note: Gas, BBs and spare magazines are not included unless stated above. Always wear suitable eye and face protection and check the power and safety rules at your site before play.
